image winxp: Heads Up on Windows XP Service Pack 1 Release image
Windows XP/Pro
navigatr1 writes "The Windows XP Service Pack 1 is in Beta test right now according to Woody’s Windows XP watch newsletter #2.24. Woody expects it to be released around the end of August – early September. He states that the service pack will be in 4 flavors:1) Download from Windows Update website.2) Windows XP Service Pack 1 CD-ROM3) Windows XP HOME Slipstream version CD-ROM4) Windows XP PRO Slipstream version CD-ROMThe Slipstream versions of Windows XP will be Windows XP with the patch already applied.

There are a few pirated copies of Windows XP out there. According to Woody, “The downloadable SP-1 update will not install over the top of most pirated copies of Windows XP. Around these parts, there are lots and lots (and lots and lots) of bootleg copies of Windows XP with a key that starts FCKGW-RHQQ2... Attempting to install SP-1 over a pirate copy of WinXP will not disable WinXP – you’ll still be able to use it – but the installer will hit you with the rather curt message.”Woody's WINDOWS XP is free for all readersEmail to join : [email protected]
