Montreal-based secure messaging developer Vircom announced today that its new SCA anti-spam engine, released last November, performs beyond expectations and has broken its own spam-catching record, scoring a close-to-perfect 99.8% spam catch rate over a complete, 24-hour period.

Closing in on total spam elimination

The SCA engine is really performing beyond our expectations says Marc Chouinard, lead of Vircom's Spambuster Team. Everybody knows that 100% spam catch rate is impossible, but we're starting to think we can get very close to it, and it goes without saying that our false positive protection maintains at 99.99%.

Vircom first released the SCA engine in the latest delivery of its third generation of secure messaging solutions, called Modus3, early last November. Right from its launch, Modus3 made a very strong impression on the market and the demand for our solutions has never been so good, says Richard Lachance, Vircom's Executive Vice President. Demand is high , says Lachance, and so is Vircom customers' satisfaction. Receiving thank you and congratulation e-mails from recently installed clients is not something companies see very often. There is no greater motivation for us to keep on improving our solutions.

Increased anti-virus performance

Earlier this week, the company added a new anti-virus feature to its Modus solutions equipped with Norman Data Defense's anti-virus engine. Called SandBox technology, the new feature is so advanced that it actually detects new and unknown malware threats, including Trojans and worms, without the need for a virus signature.

The Norman SandBox technology represents a milestone in non-signature based detection of new, unknown viruses' utilizing far superior techniques to those adopted by pure heuristics. This unique technology stops and quarantines the malware attacking the machine based on behavior even before any virus signature file is created for this specific threat.
