image spam: Security HeadLines: FTC and Ferris Research Webcast: Anti-spam legislation image
SPAM
Anonymous writes "

Across North America, anti-spam laws—such as the recently enacted CAN-SPAM Act—are being hailed as the solution to one of today's greatest threats to enterprise productivity: unsolicited email.

But industry experts disagree on the effectiveness of these laws, with some seeing them as little more than 'how-to' manuals for spammers who wish to pass themselves off as legitimate marketers.

Join representatives from the FTC, analyst firm Ferris Research, and email protection vendor Sophos as they discuss the implications of CAN-SPAM and other anti-spam legislation in a free, 1-hour webcast.

US anti-spam legislation that could send spammers to jail went into effect on January 1. And other countries, including Canada and Australia, are also introducing similar measures.

Yet many experts, including Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses and spam, believes that the legislation will not reduce spam, and—if anything—has the potential to create confusion and encourage even more companies to send unsolicited email.

In this free, 1-hour webcast, FTC attorney Katie Harrington-McBride joins Ferris Research analyst Richi Jennings, and Sophos senior security analyst Chris Belthoff to discuss the implications of these laws on legitimate organizations.

The presentation will cover topics including:

* Compliance: Learn the technology and procedural changes your organization needs to make to avoid potential civil and criminal legal action.

* Enforcement: Discover why jurisdiction limitations, legal loopholes, and weak standards may actually increase the amount of spam in your inbox.

* Enterprise Security: Find out why a consolidated email filtering solution is still the most effective anti-spam protection.
