Madrid, January 30, 2004 - Yahoo has reported(*) that Microsoft has promised
to pay 250,000 dollars to anyone who helps authorities find and prosecute
the author of MyDoom.B.
Microsoft has announced that residents of any country are eligible for the
reward, if they contribute to the arrest and conviction of the creator of
Mydoom.B. The actions carried out by this worm include launching denial of
service attacks against Microsoft servers and preventing users from
accessing the websites of certain antivirus companies.
This Microsoft initiative follows a similar announcement from SCO Group Inc.
earlier this week, which offered 250,000 dollars for information leading to
the arrest and conviction of the creator of Mydoom.A. This worm launches
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against its website w w
w.sco.com.
This is not the first reward of this kind offered by Microsoft. In November
2003, Microsoft announced two 250,000 dollar rewards for information that
would help authorities to find the authors of Blaster and Sobig.
