LUCOMS~1.EXE is running on my Task manager .. I don't know if that's normal though ! When I try to run my Norton LiveUpdate. I get error 1821 .. Cannot update Virus Definitions ..Symantec's website intructions for this error don't tally with my experience of it.. I did a HijackThis scan and paste the results below.. If you can help me I would be very happy ! cheers

Neil

To start with, you have the Blaster worm as well as another worm. Please download and run this removal tool from Symantec - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

Then run an online anti-virus scan here and let it remove anything it finds: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Reboot after that and post a new Hijack This log, as well as telling us if there's any change in your problems with Norton.

Lucomserver is the Live-Update component of Norton Antivirus by the way.

thanks.. I have gratefully done all you suggested.. trend killed teekids and msblast off.. I have also run the symantec tool which confirms I am rid of blaster.. I installed all the suggested Windows Updates while I was at it...

I have run Nortons and it still does everything the same , everything works until it gets to the last thing , and then it says error LU1821 the update failed because you tried to update a file that was in use...

I ran Hijackthis and I have attached the log.. Is it better to attach or paste it ? When I saw the pasted version it looked "unjustified" and harder to read... attachment is called HijackThissaturday.txt

thanks a million Zuke...

You're running an older version of Hijack This, so please start by downloading the latest version from here: http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-328.html Please unzip it to its own folder, as otherwise it will clutter up your desktop with its backups.

Once that's done, with all browser windows closed, rescan with Hijakc This, put checks next to all the items I quoted above and click "Fix Checked". Reboot, scan again with Hijack This and copy and paste your new log here.

Have you tried installing the latest version of LiveUpdate for Norton and also following the other troubleshooting steps in this knowledgebase article - http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sh...nt&src=_mi ?
