|
|
Hi all, first post here so be gentle on the newbie...
I'm getting some strange noise when I load browser pages. Does not happen everytime, but it does it often enough to be annoying. The sound is not one of the standard Windows .wav sound files. The sound is short, decreasing in tone and with quality like a wet fart! I've been through the whole list of sounds listed in C:/WINDOWS/Media, but there is nothing there that sounds like this.
I don't know what is causing this noise but I do want to get rid of it.
I am running Windows XP Professional 2002, SP1 with all current critical updates.
I have up to date Network Associate virus checker and firewall:
McAfee VirusScan
Build 8.0.26
Engine Version 4.3.20
DAT version 4.0.4337
DAT created 13/03/2004
Personal Firewall Plus
v5.0 API Version 5.0.1.5
Have scanned and no viruses detected, but VC found and quarantined Adware-Funweb and Adware-MWS in the last couple of days.
Have installed Spybot Search & Destroy v1.2, downloaded latest updates and searched for problems, but nothing found highlighted in RED {though were lines saying:
(1) Threat: Alexa Related / What's related link | CHECKED
&
(1) Threat DSO Exploit / Data Source Object exploit | CHECKED}
I also have now installed Lavasoft Adware v5.83, SpyBlaster v2.6.1 and SpywareGuard 2.2.0.
I have downloaded and installed HJ1.97.7
Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7
Scan saved at 17:08:27, on 15/03/2004
Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)

Thanks for the email Merijn.
I checked Pacman's Startup list and used HJT to remove anything that the list said I should remove.
Not had any annoying sounds today, fingers crossed.
Anything I can do right now to confirm the problem has gone ?
Cheers,
Gary |
