|
|
Hey, I have an HP Pavilion 701 Athlon XP 2000 + processor, 1 GB DDR Ram. My computer runs like it's 10 years old, it runs slow and constantly freezes. Ocassionally the keyboard will stop typing letters, sometimes pressing buttons opens programs sometimes they do nothing at all, I have tried changing the keyboard that doesn't fix it. A while ago my fan stopped running and it was causing freezes but I got that replaced. The computer still freezes, and the longer it runs the more common the freezes are. I think it could potentially be hardware got damaged when the fan broke, but I am not sure what could have gotten damaged. I did a HijackThis scan on my computer here are the results:

As you have a number of issues, I suggest you proceed as follows:
Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, you NEED to FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.
Now do the following:
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Press "Scan Now"
- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:
Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys.
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"
Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.
Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.
That ought to get rid of most of your spyware.
When you've done all that, restart your computer, re-run Hijack This, and show us a fresh log.
There will be more to do!
Cheers,

Please follow these steps, in exactly that order:
Run this uninstaller:

Much better. You do however have too many applications starting up automatically as Windows starts, and this can impair your computer's performance.
You would benefit considerably by trimming down that list.
Go to Start > Run > Msconfig, and uncheck everything but the absolutely necessary on the 'Startup' tab.
Then click OK, close Msconfig, and reboot.
You can use Pacman\'s List of Startup Applications to help you determine what should stay and what should go.

It's apparently not software related, and hence outside the scope of this section, and my expertise, I'm afraid....

I did test my ram, my hard drive and my optical drives, they are all fine, my pc is down now because I tried to do a system restore and couldn't get the system back up. HP's suck, I"m getting a dell. The Graphics card is making alot of noise but I don't know how to test it. |
