Below is a list of some of the past Regular Expression Filter Threads from the MailWasher Forums here at Computer Cops. Some of the threads contain more useful information than others but they all at least contain some information.
I think it is only right to thank those people involved in these threads for contributing so much of their time knowing that their only reward was helping others.
Paying homage to the filter list that pretty much started it all: Gary\'s Filters
For a Regular Expression tester to use on your own see this thread:
Is this Satisfactory for testing Regex?
The titles used below are the titles of the topic threads exactly as typed in by the original thread starters.

Whoever took the time to post the above list of links deserves the thanks of all users on this forum.
Searching for, compiling and posting such a list had to take quite some time....and to do so anonymously was a very nice gesture to the 'Christmas' season.
Thank you 'Santa Claus'....I do appreciate the trip you took down the chimney to post the above. |

Agreed. Now we just need a Moderator to put a sticky on this one....

A few more filter threads that I think should not be left off of the list:
59. Filtering spam in Russian characters
60. more ideas for filtering mail
61. Coded Headers
62. Different messages
63. Great tip: Copy \'Filter name\' into \'...cription\'
64. How do you adjust the filter order?
The above posted list are by no means all of the past threads in the MailWasher Forums that have to do with filters and Regular Expressions but the list should provide a more easy hunting ground for someone who is looking for threads having to do with filters. |

I too want to pay homage to Santa Claus. Denn and Ikeb are certainly right about wanting to thank whoever did all of the "Joe Friday" work. It was no easy feat and they should feel proud of their accomplishment.
I know I sure appreciate having fewer places to look for a large majority of the same info. Makes the day's work go so much faster.
Thanks again Santa.

One of the drawbacks of posting anonymously is that the original post to this topic can't be edited by us users (perhaps DR could though). Our anonymous benefactor who posted this topic has posted an update in the Troubleshooting forum so I've taken the liberty of re-posting the updated post here.
BTW, the updated post comes with the following notes:
Guest wrote: |
The above posting is an updated version of the original posting "(Some) of the Past Regular Expression Threads".
In this final posting to make the list more orderly it is structured to run chronologically with the oldest started thread on the list beginning at #1 and the most recently started thread on the list being #63.
A few duplicate thread links I hadn't noticed in the first posting have been removed from this one (I think so anyhow).
I wanted to include the word 'Filter' in the thread title so that has been done. At the time of the first posting I didn't know how many characters were allowed in the thread titles.
Also added to the above posting is a thread referencing Regular Expression tutorials.
Apologies for the double posting of the list. |
Here's the update sans quote markings:

Because Andrey is loosing his web page (that is an absolute shame...but it happens), I am going to repost the previously posted links to 'TRegExpr' (The Regular Expression Engine used in WMP) to point to the 'Delphi' Source locations...
'TRegExpr' will download the Regular Expression Test Program.
After you install it and run it you will note the 'Global Modifiers' checkboxes at the top of the 'Expressions' page of the program. In order to have 'TRegExpr' run with the same defaults as are used by MWP, you must set these modifiers as follow:
- \i - ON (checked)
- \m - ON (checked)
- \s - ON (checked)
- \x - OFF (unchecked)
- Greedy - ON (checked)
- Russian Ranges - OFF (unchecked)
These will have to be correctly set each time you open 'TRegExpr',
You can also load the 'Help' files as follows:
- ENGLISH
- RUSSIAN
- BULGARIAN
- GERMAN
- FRENCH
- SPANISH
NOTE:
You will only be able to test the Regular Expression contained in ONE RULE (in MWP filters) at a time.
Also, the 'input string' should be kept down to a relatively small size (no more than 65,536 Bytes or 2^16 bytes). If the file exceeds that size, the program will still find matches, but will highlight the wrong text (The pointers for that input string window use a 16-bit register and will 'rollover' to the start of the string if the location of the match is past that 16-bit value). If that should happen you can run the expression on a 'file' and it will highlight the correct text.

Denn988, looks like regexstudio has done some moving around. I get nothing but 404 errors on all of the links you put in the above post. Is it just me?
Maybe one day RusticDog or someone can put the updated version of the first post, that Ikeb posted in this thread, at the top since that looks to be the finished version of the filter list.
I haven't as yet but since I'm here I'd too like to thank the person who posted the list. It helps! |

Actually I should have thought to suggest that RD replace the updated version as the sticky....
As to regexstudio, I get the same thing. That didn't take long.
It looks like some site "rearrangement" is taking place. I found the English Help file at http://www.regexpstudio.com/TRegExpr/He...ntax.html. It looks like more comprehensive documentation in various languages can be obtained via http://regexpstudio.com/TRegExpr/TRegExpr.html
BTW, it looks like a newer version (0.952) is now available....

I am I missing something? In version 0.947 of TRegExpr there is an exe file in the Zip file I downloaded that I can point a shortcut to and have the app function but in version 0.952 I see no such exe.

No, you're not missing anything cause I noiticed that too. I guess if you don't have access to a Pascal compiler, you're up the proverbial creek without a paddle - and possibly with a hole in da boat to boot! Me too!
I've got one thought that may fix the problem but it might take a few days. I'll get hold of RusticDog and see if he can't contact Andrey to see if we can get an executable included in the new versions from now on. I tried contacting him (Andrey) myself but guess he's not answering his mail.

I don't have the ear of 'Andrey' either.
If anyone is in a position to offer suggestions to the developer of TRegExpr, one thing that would be nice would be for the program to remember the 'Global Modifiers' chosen when the program is closed. Instead of having to reset them each time the program is opened.

Yeah, that one always gets me as well. You'd think I'd learn after wondering "What the h*** is going on with this filter now?" for the nth time!
So the latest version only has the source code eh? I forgot about wanting to install the newer version. Thanks for saving me the trouble QuiteOne.
You know ... we should be asking RD to consider building TRegExpr into MWP.... |

I'll second, or third, or whatever that particular little item myself. Sure gets tiring trying to verify the *@*$E( setup every time you do something.

You're welcome Ikeb. Anytime I can help, I'm always willing. Well... most of the time anyway. There are a few things where I draw the line.

That's a really good idea. Glad you thought of it! I asked RD to help the last time --- now it's your dime!! err nickel, err time!! Oh whatever! Hey, but I'll back you up on the request.
BTW Ikeb, I heard back from one of the guys at Firetrust, but not RD, on the request about TRegExpr. He's going to see if they can get some action on an executable image. But it'll probably take a week or so. Take care.
Later Ikeb and nice to hear from you.

I did some Delphi programming at college - nothing serious, but apparently enough to be able to figure out how to change the default state of a few checkboxes.
I looked in the files included in 0.952 and there was no source for a TestRExp.exe. Just the necessary files for adding the functionality to your own application. Looks like development on this freeware regexp tester has stopped.
So I've modified 0.947:
http://www.purechaos.plus.com/mw/TestRExp.exe
It won't 'remember' whether a box was checked or not, just always start with them selected as in denn988's post above.
Enjoy
