|
|
Maybe someone can answer this for me, I'm new here, so this may have been answered already. With dial up modem, these dialer viruses (or whatever they are ) can run up dialer charges on your internet bill. Can that happen with a cable modem? How would they bill you?
The cable company told me twice that it cant since there is no dial up but I just wondered if anyone here had experience with this. Since it is always on I worry about this, we just got it (cable internet ) and I know a firewall helps but these people find new ways around protection an all it takes is one time.

I'm not sure about wether dialers can dial across the cable or not..but i think they can't..because,most of the dialers that i've seen dial a telephone number..which can't be done through a cable modem(the kind of cable modems that i've seen cannot dial a number...is yours different?)..however hackers can certainly make their way into the cable internet especially if its always on.I'm not sure what you should do since I don't have any experience with cable net.I hope someone else here can tell you what to do to protect yourself. But don't worry..there's definitely got to be some way

Hi.
I just thought of something...may be you can also use the Lock or Stop all traffic function of your firewall.Zone Alarm provides that...may be yours does as well. When you select it no data will transfer between your computer and the internet..if i were you i would enable it when i were to leave the computer.
Any opinions anyone?

Ours is the Insight broadband, It doesnt dial up to connect, its always on. I just want to make sure there is no way one of these dialers can set up shop in our computer. |
