Could you list a few symptoms? What exactly is the problem that you are having? Pop-ups? Hijacked home/search page(s)?

Oh, Im just having a general security concern because I keep on getting notifications from ZoneAlarm that certain programs are trying to access the internet - programs that im not familiar with and that appear to be security threats. for example, chlp30eo.exe appeared on someone elses HijackThis log when i searched for it on google.

Okay, start with running AdAware and Spy Bot - Search and Destroy. Run them regularly and keep them updated. You said you have ZoneAlarm so you obviously have a good line of defence there. I wouldn't worry too much about what others have unless you have it youself.

This entry makes me wonder a little bit

I'm not sure what it is. I assume you do. If it was installed by you and you know what it is then you don't need to worry about it. It might just be the name that grabs at me.

Anyway, if you have no symptoms of anything damaging then I don't suppose you have anything to worry about. Stay on top of the lattest updates for your Antivirus programs and the spyware scanners I listed above and also keep up to date with the latest security updates from Microsoft.

I am going to take over this thread. Anyone other than Computer Cops Staff or rookie_cop
please stop posting here.

Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up Task Manager. Click the processes tab and find this entry:
chlp30eo.exe

Right click on the entry and choose end process from the menu.

Delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\chlp30eo.exe

--------------
Close All Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer Windows. Select the following items and press Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [chlp30eo] C:\WINDOWS\System32\chlp30eo.exe
---------------

Restart the computer.

Empty your Temporary Internet Files and history in Internet Options. And clean out your
%Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp
folder. It's a good idea to do that regularly.

---------------
Run HijackThis again and post the new log in your next reply in this same topic.
