Well hello Mrs Hoppes,
Just this minute got back from a business trip, been a very long day but nice to hear from you again.
I hope you are not trying to bring out the "Devil" in me again.
I do so enjoy lighting fires under peoples bums to watch the reaction.
Funny how you build a mental picture of someone from the way they respond, only to find you were totally wrong.
If you built my picture I'll bet you would be wrong too!
Some very nice folks on this site so I aint going to wind anyone else up.
(can you beleive that?) oooooooh I feel devilish again Laughing

Hey, Cob...hope the trip to Germany was a good one! Did you make it to the Salong tavern? How was it & the also the Porta Nigra & ampitheater?

Ahhh, come on...give us a little more of that devil, Cobblers2u. It makes for lively discussion, it does!

I remember playing football (USA style not English style) in my earlier days and being lined up against some big lineman bruiser, I was. Normally, I played one of the end positions, but that game I was in the line. I new the opposing player would level me, he would , cause he was much bigger than I. So I faked him out and he ended up face first in the mud. Well, I'll never forget his look & what he said when he got up...he got up wiping his face with his large forearm, mud in his teeth and eyes on fire staring intently at me, and said 'Dat's da ways I likes to play! For the rest of the game, he mashed me & smashed me all around that field! But you know...there was something about his intensitity & competitive fire that was appealing.

And hello to you to, MrsHoppes...glad you're weighin in. We got em on the run, we do...don't hold back...give em the true rath of righteousness! Love em...you should! Let your love shine, sister! Isn't there more potential good in mixing with the non-believers than in taking the safe & easy path of just mixing with other like-minded Christians? Who knows...you might find a Catholic you liked! We might even save old Cobblers2u or SPF or, heavens forbid, even Pat! I'd sit down at a bar with the 3 of em and drink my fill of ale, I would. I'd buy em some Sam Adams & let em buy me some Guinness. I would. Don't know that we'd convince each other of anything but it would certainly be a lively discussion...last man standing, wins! (sorry Pat!)

Let's get back to 'What's the point' of religion...and see if the heathens have posted another sacraligious diatribe...

in namanus patrus et filius sanctus, amen (i mean, ahuper-whatever...)

from one saved Catholic...

OK Boorad,
you win, but on 1 condition, If you think I ham overstepping the mark you must tell me. The day trip was to set things up for the trip proper in April. Got picked up in a Limo and whizzed to a location, stayed there all day doing the business thing then back to the airport. Very boring.
It is 7.am just fallen out of bed and now going to get a shower in my new bathroom before going into work to find out what my followers have been up to in my abscence. back on board in 12 hours, enjoy your day when you arise.

Are you lapsed, Boo? Very Happy I believe what you mean here is...In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen. If you're going to extol (from the Latin tollo "to raise") Catholicism you really should include all your Gods. Try this one on for size....Quia tu es, Deus, fortitudo mea: quare me repulisti, et quare tristis incedo, dum affligit me inimicus? (For Thou, O God, art my strength, why hast Thou forsaken me? And why do I go about in sadness, while the enemy harasses me?) Very Happy
And now for the Good News, Boo, I AM saved. Saved from the iniquity of pernicious preternatural sectarianism. Hallelulia. Let the bells ring and the banners fly. It's too good to be true, but I am saved..Per omnia saecula saeculorum..(Forever and ever)Very Happy

Pacem vobiscum (Peace be with you)
Et cum spiritu tuo. (And with your spirit)
Libera nos a malo..(Deliver us from evil)

Ahhh...Pat...do I detect a little Catholic in your upbringing? You seem to know the old Latin, you do! Was it those mean ole nuns that drove you away or some abusive priest, bishop or cardinal?

pax vobiscum,
BooRad

PS...Cob we'll keep it civil, we will...tis funner that way. No gloves needed...just a pint or two!

You taking in that French Canadian dialect again ekrubtap, you know I only like their Cajun swamp music.
All followers of religion do so because of Auto Suggestion over a long period of time.
Most have never had the freedom of choice, they started on the holy trail as youngsters being led or misled by their parents. If you did not attend "The Church" on a regular basis then you would not get a job when you left school.
If you got into trouble with the law then whoe betide you if you were not a regular worshiper, and we are not talking Victorian Era here but modern day society.
We are witnessing an unchristian act in our local parishes at this present time and guess who the perpetrators are?
Yes the all forgiving, all embracing Church.
Young couples applying to get Married are refused the ceremony unless they have been attendees on a regular basis, this also goes for Christenings.
Who are these so called Christians who take it unto themselves to deny the sanctity of the church to those wanting to share in the activities of the "Exclusive Club". (Those bloody Priests yet again).
In these times when the conregations are dwindling to an all time low you would think that they would be encouraging new comers not denying them access.
If the Religious factions practiced what they so often preach maybe we would all be living in a trouble free land.
(Now who is going to twist this to fit in with their sectarian culture!)

Stop Press, Today's News hot off the press.

Two Nuns found behind the wheel of an off-road 4x4 vehicle incapable of driving that vehicle due to the effects of Alchol consumption.

Priest banned from driving for twelve months for being 4 times over the legal limit.

What would have happened if they had killed someone, would it be 3 Hail Mary's and back to work as normal, providing solace to the bereaved.

Double standards here don't you think.

Ok... I just got back to this thread and after reading this, the only thing I am picturing are the veggie-tales characters having some off the wall conversation with Boorad as Bob the tomatoe and Cobblers as Larry the Cucumber.

Can you tell my son just got a new Veggietales tape?
My only saving grace right now is he doesn't watch regular TV and the only way for him to see his new tape is to have the TV rolled out into the livingroom.
Unfortunantly, DH likes the veggietales as well.

I guess you missed the post about my being a super altar boy (Grand Knight of the Altar) in my youth. Did have a few run ins with the Nones (stink bombs in the cafeteria sort of thing) but basically gave as good as I got. No immediatelly apparent psycological scarring. I think it was the choking on incense whilst auto-flaggelating on the approach to the altar on my knees in the broken glass that eventually soured me on future religious prospects.

I'm not sure if you're aware that Canuckada is an officially bilingual country. But in my usual fervor I have gone them one better. I actually speak three languages. English, Canadian, and American and can switch effortlessly between the three. Motor, car, wheels. Boot, trunk, body deposit. Nothing to it, just takes a little application.

Enjoy the crack do you? I'll settle for the occasional brew, thank you very much.

Pacem d' Fritoes, please.

hello,
new here.

ekrubtap, i read your posts as if you were a pagan. for whatever reason. but that really isn't so odd, my aunt belongs to a group called imago that is a gathering of catholics and pagans, because they realize they believe and practice alot of the same things. So maybe this topic doesn't have to be about arguing dogma and contradictions but to celebrate the similarities and differences between us. Isn't it wonderful that we can get along civilly and have completely opposing points of view?! although it is unfortunate that alot of religions believe that everyone else should believe the exact same thing as them. I think that if god/ess had inteded for everyone to be the same s/he would have made us that way to begin with. Anyway, i love our differences i don't think i would give that up for a homogenous world for anything. Smile

Hello flumpdoria

No, not much in the way of Paganism in my heart Just pure, unadulterated Atheism. (well, perhaps pure is relative and subjective). If I were a pagan I would be a theist. Also, I would be more inclined to apply the term neo-pagan, and lump them in with neo-pantheists, neo-wiccans, neo-druids, neo- Gaians (excepting, of course James Lovelock and his ilk who propose a scientific twist in the "Gaia Hypotheses in that the earth may be functioning as a single organism, attempting to maintain an optimum balance (which we are not helping)), well basically any neo-religiosity and born-again-christianity. The whole lot would appear to be little more than a trip down nostalgic racial memory lane in search of what mainstream religion has failed to provide, but all the while can only be found right behind our noses. We create the problems. Only we can solve the problems. Not the 4,000 religions, or the 10,000 (or whatever) gods. Not to mention the gods\godesses with 10,000 names in case you forget the first few thousand, I guess.
I tried to look up Imago with no success. Half a million or so returns. Is there a web site? I guess the Catholic side came up with the name. Imago being Latin for "image" and popularly used in "Imago Dei", meaning "image of the big guy". Have a hard time concieving of any self repecting pagan settling for a Latin name, given their mutual history. Very interesting. Better keep all this from the pope, tho, the shock would surely do him in.

cheers....

Have to say "flumpdoria" sounds like a wonderful wiccan name. (I have some wiccan friends, and yes christian friends, too, BooRad.

too d' loo....
