Good idea OldGuy. If you do post multiple logs please make sure you make it understood you're not duplicating.
I've asked for advice on the multiple user issue, will let you know the results. |
I look forward to hearing what is said re HJT and multiple accounts Liz. To be perfectly honest with you, i'd never even thought of this as a potential problem with HJT. Other programs yes but not HJT.
I would have thought that by now, someone somewhere, would have been asked for multiple logs if there is a chance of a system having multiple accounts.

Well, I ran Adaware, Spybot, CWShredder and Regseeker on all 4 accounts. I'll submit the HJT logs tomorrow.
I'm kinda tired and have been sick for a couple of days now.
Need sleep !
BTW do you want me to submit these to the Hijack forum or to this thread ? |

I knew I'd seen a comment about this before and found it in this post.
It appears Mosaic already suggested runnning HJT on all profiles to someone:

I ran 4 HJT logs and will post them tomorrow (oops, I mean today, it's past midnight and I'm still up. So much for a good night's sleep.) |

Hey OldGuy, the long and the short of it is HJT would need to be run on all accounts. That came from Merijn himself so I'll go with it
On the plus side, Parputt gave me a link to his post with some useful sites for XP tweakers. Don't know if you've seen it so here it is anyway http://www.computercops.biz/postt7885.html

Thanks lilliebet
I guess that settles that issue then.
I'll submit those 4 logs today. Hopefully they're not in too bad shape. |

Not quite, methinks. This issue needs addressing so that responses are adapted accordingly. i.e. "if your system supports or has multiple accounts/profiles, please run a scan and submit a HJT log for each account/profile."

I managed to get SpywareGuard & PopupStopper to run on all 4 profiles using Mike Lin's StartUp Control Panel. Moved it from HKCU to HKLM. Am now trying to figure out how to do the same with Spyware Blaster as it's not listed in the Startup Control Panel. I think if I put a shortcut to it in the All Users Startup folder that should do it.
What do you think ? |

Good thinking OldGuy, keep me posted. How did you get on with your four logs?

Logs were good. Took a while to run em but they were pretty clean. Bulldog had me fix a couple of useless entries but that was it. |

As to Spyware Blaster, I checked out Javacool's site today. Seems that you can install it once and as long as it's run approx once a week from each user's desktop it will work fine. |

Just a thought on this issue regarding running HJT on each profile....
What about logging in as the admin and running it from there? Wouldn't that scan all profiles?
Just throwing in my two bobs worth

Tried that, unfortunately it doesn't work. I have Admin privileges and when I ran HJT it did not pick up everything. There were still a couple of entries that differed when I ran it from each individual desktop.
Fortunately, with all the other Spyware programs I've been using there wasn't anything critical to fix, but still, there you have it, although the first time I ran Spybot from the other profiles it did find some stuff that I thought was gone but had in fact never been picked up on until I ran it from the other desktops.

Another interesting turn of events
I was having trouble with Adaware (it kept stalling) so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I have admin provileges on the computer and installed it as such. I ran it from 2 different profiles and the results were different.
From my desktop it came up clean but from my wife's desktop it came up with a few things including Lop.
I checked the setting and it was set to deep scan all filed and folders so I don't get it. |

Hey OldGuy I thought Adaware was working across the board - now I'm confused
I'm going to move this to the new Spyware Tools forum, may get some more input.
Then I'm going to the bookies, there's a certain local horse race happening today - doubt you'll have heard of it
Then, I'm going to do some further investigation.
