.. in the Dewalt thread... I'm looking at getting a ford f350 7.3 diesal crew cab dually. Concerns.. I'm told the mpg is 20 on the highway, but I can't confirm this on any website or dealership. One salesman told me that, and another couple I met at dinner the night before.
Another concern is driving on the sand with a dually. Not sure if there are real issues there, and if so, how to clean?

Man that is a truck. I have never had a need for a 1ton truck. I would be amazed if it gets 17 mpg on the highway.
I called the dealership here they informed me that you would not find out what the mpg on the diesel engines whether it is a F250 or a F350. This is because of the nature of the truck and what you can do with it. Towing, load etc. I told the salesman 13mpg on the highway he said probably less.
You would need a 4- wheel drive for the sand as this is such a heavy truck. I think it would just bury itself. |

20 if you drive like a grandma.
I'm lucky to get 17 out of my Wrangler; then again I seem to drive it like a Porsche.
Nothing is more fun than smoking a stickered/suped-up ricer with one of the most NON-Aerodynamic vehicles in the world.

That's just it, I'd love to confirm the mileage.

You are going to have to test drive it. Unless somebody that comes here has one.
Take the salesman with you.
Fill it up with gas drive it on the highway and fill it back up. |

I talked with someone else I know at Ford service, and he said that if I don't go crazy with it, nothing about 75 on the highway nor pulling daily, I should see those averages.

I bet that puppy comes with a 40 gallon gas tank and you won’t get 400 miles to a tank full. |

No matter how you slice it the 7.3 diesel is hard to beat. Little better then 300 Hp I used to work with off road ones set up for chemical application. The only weak spot the trucks had were the auto trannies and the occasional beotch slap to the transferre case by the driveshaft. Put a temp gauge on the tranny and an over sized cooler if auto and your gonna work it hard. For everyday runnin around should easily nail 350,000 miles out of those trucks.
Mileage? its a truck, gas rig ain't gonna get no better. Dodge can't seem to build a good tranny and chev's are usually a bit more $$$ up front and in the shop.
Good Luck! |

I'm hesitant right now. If the truck is going to get less than 15/16 on the highway, then I need to reassess what it is I want. But shoot, the truck has such a great stance.
