ok first off, when i hit notepad, it says this (zipped) file is either corrupted or invalid.
secondly, when i went into regedit hkey local machine/software/microsoft/internet explorer/main- i have a new thing in there called start page about blank. Now my page is still yahoo but im hoping when i restart it doesnt change back to about blank...thanks..

OK, I got the same error with the zip file after I downloaded it, so something happened during the initil upload. I'll try again here. Try downloading it again.
As for your system, restart ant let me know if your homepage is reset to about:blank.
Also, please post a new HJT log.
Note: if you still can't open the zip file, PM me your email and I'll send it to you that way.

Always be careful with HijackThis. If you install a new program, or change a setting in windows somewhere, this log can change and not necessarily mean a nasty has been installed.
best thing to do is move hijackthis to a folder of its own (I use c:\hjt). This way when changes to your system are made with it, the backup files it creates are contained in the directory and won't get lost like they can if HJT is run from your desktop or a temp folder. That way you can always restore a change if you need to.
Run HJT and fix this entry:
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
After this, your log is clean!

first im pretty sure you can see that im infested by this exexex stuff whatever the heck that is...it looks like its just bad so im guessing i need to fix that.
please let me know whats going on here...i need that fixed asap. it looks bad...whatever it is. also my start page changed to spad/start.html and came up as search everything...i hate those sites...however i went into my regedit deleted it and there was a folder called spad in cy c: i got rid of that too. i think my computer is really screwed up now...please help! thanks again for helping |

This is a pretty new hijacker. Luckily, the power experts here have a fix for it.
Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad. Name as Spad.reg
save as type all files.

Try this:
Restart into safe mode and make sure you can see Hidden & System files and then delete:
HPCMDTY.DLL (do a search)
Your log is clean now though! |

| hello satchick, since i last posted you said my long was clean. i just got back from vacation today and i saw the same problem. whats going on? im really bummed cause i thought everything was normal...i cant get the link to hijackthis as of now...for some reason the page i use isnt coming up and purity scan is a problem agian. it seems like everything we did is nulified after a couple weeks...please help |

When you post the log, include all of it. I don't know what OS you're running, or what version. It may be out of date, and if so, that makes your system a lot more vulnerable to malware.
Also here is an excellent source for tips to tighten security. Follow the advice and get the free downloads to help avoid some of these problems in the future.

another thing that annoys me is there are some things on my add/remove programs that are definitely bad...for example...
spin4dough
search assistant- my web search
my web search (cursur mania)
etc.
when i try to hit change/or remove the programs from my computer, a blank page comes up...
res://C:\PROGRA~1\My Web Search...etc. at the end of it its a dll file. this is similar for all of my problems.
another minor thing is how do i not allow my computer to do a dropdown bar for my search page containing my past searches...its just a little annoying and i would like to get rid of that. i checked some of the options but it was just folder options. thanks for the help again |

A lot of these malware uninstalls simply don't work, or may have been damaged by partial removal. We'll have to remove these entries manually from the registry later.

I'm afraid this is a built in function of IE that can't be modified.
As far as you log goes, its good except these entries:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ncao] C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Application Data\urpo.exe
--> This is part of a program called mediaTicket. This contains spyware. Check for an entry in Add/Remove programs and uninstall if it exists and then have HJT fix this entry, then remove the file urpo.exe.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WNST] C:\WINDOWS\System32\wnsapisv.exe
--> This is a program called PurityScan. It very dangerous and can destroy actual system files if you run it. Remove it by following the instructions here:

--> have HJT fix this too.

maybe this will help you fix the problem...my problem is this site called myexexex...thats the only thing. hopefully that will help you. i did everything as told, hopefully the purity scan thing is gone. dont worry bout the add or remove programs...i just dont like extra junk on my c drive. now back to this thing called myexexex it looks like its directly related to spade....the same problem i had earlier on. i added stuff to my registry like you said yet the problem seems to be still there...i deleted anything that remotely had to do with myexexex...even did a search for that on my c drive and found nothing. the problems sees to continue to show. really annoying. anyways thanks for the help. lemme know if there are any more suggestions...im open to try anything at this point

Download and run the new version of CWShredder here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Run it and click on the FIX button and let it do it's thing.
This new version should get rid of the myexexex
Have HJT fix these entries:
