Hi
The JeepSter looks good! We don't see many Jeeps in the uk-- Land Rover and Range Rover are probably the nearest thing to the Jeep.

I've always wanted a LR Defender 90 (best all terrain ever!) but they quit distributing them in the US and the price jumped from 37,500 to 42,500 overnight.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the most capable vehicle on the market and for all eternity...Jeep is the original...the best...and will continue to be the best...and will contest...and defy...all other imitations such as the D-90 which is an overweight underpowered piece of crap with not as much wheel articulation as a Jeep Wrangler...and can't compete with the low gear ratio of a Jeep Wrangler...Jeep is the best and most capable 4x4 ever. |

I used to own an old Army Jeep, but had to sell
it when I got Terminally Ill w/ Cancer & besides, my
driver's licence was revoked, as I am taking
some pretty heavy meds that require alertness,
even though I never had one point taken off of my
driver's licence.
Got a couple of parking tickets, but paid them off ASAP
Ahhh well, I sold it to my oldest brother, so it's
still in the family, so to speak |

I'm a fan of the WWII Willys Jeeps but they do tend to roll easily.
Had Five Land-Rovers, two Lwb diesels, two Swb petrol and one Lwb Safari. All great motors as long as you stick to one simple rule, it being NEVER to buy anything later than a series IIA. Possible exception is a series 3 when leaf spring were switched for coils.
In a Properly organized test of 4x4s held in Wales last year, Jeeps were white-washed. The rice-burners didn't fare much better and the modern landrover was disapointing.
The test was for every vehicle to climb a set course consisting of all conditions: sand, uneven rock-bed, river crossing and, the real killer, a muddy hill climb.
One by one all the vehicles ground to a halt and as each did so, a John Deere tractor was brought in to tow away the stricken. Then, the unthinkable happened, when the JD slid into a ditch. It could not be moved forward 'cos of a rock face and could not be moved back because of the vehicles it was towing.
A half hour later salvation appeared. It arrived in the form of a thirty five year old series IIa Lwb petrol 'Rover. It traversed the exact same course that all the modern 4x4s had failed to negotiate and shamed a JD 4x4 tractor to boot.
If you cast your minds back to the invasion of Iraq, Land-Rovers were able to keep going when even the mighty Hummers had ground to a halt.
Don't have to believe me, there's plenty of news-reel footage to back this up. |

Thats some story Mariner, convinced me to go for a Series 11. Am bidding on 3 at the moment but ones a series 3. Why are you against 3s I'm interested!. Used to have a series 1 but the shape seem all wrong nowadays. Asia Rocsta is a cheap copy alternative to the Wrangler thats still available secondhand in the UK (made by KIA).
Just missed a soft top 2 it was withdrawnbefore the end of the sale time, I was waiting to pounce at the last minute, very disapointed, still 3 to go.
I'm after a tax exempt one. |

You got rid of a series 1! Are you mad? They are the best IMHO, wonderful machine. Also fetch a lot of money.
Not against series 3, thats when they went coil spring. Similar benefits can be had on earlier series by way of fitting a special leaf spring that doesn't seize up and shake your teeth out.
I am considering looking for a S3 myself. Want o/d 'box and taller diffs to aid fuel economy. Can add these later if not already fitted.
Didnt know the Rocsta was still available. Look ok but do not drive well. |

I sold the series 1 at a time when they were plentiful and I knew sod all about back axle seals that were going on a yearly basis. A guy who had ex munitions lathes at a garage in Cheshire used to turn them for me,but the garage closed. My landy went shortly after. If I knew then what I know now I'd still have it, but that goes for a lot of vehicles I've disposed of. Gather there is a big market in bringing spares for them in from Aussie land. 1 for sale on e-bay but it's all in bits an I aint got storage space. Not to fussed about consumption as its just for nocking about and rescuing damsels in distress, or the odd bit of sh.t shifftin.
Whatever colour I get it, will be dark green soon as the weather picks up. Just love that colour! an the spare wheel bonnet mounted. Dont like the windows in the side though, should be soft top or commercial. I taught the wife to drive in the series 1, she passed her test in it 1st time, but since we changed it for a "car" she has not driven since. So I cant go for a pint or two in the car cos she wont drive me back. |

The bloke next door had a series 1 at the same time, early 70s I think, he bought his when the Civil Defence disbanded. He still has it and it's still got "Field Cable Party" embelished on the doors and has Trafficators not flashing indicators. It lives down in the Cornwall area now as he moved a few years ago. |
