Religion is not only a deadly virus, it's also one of the greatest excusers and facilitators of one of the most powerful yet condoned, nurtured, and manipulated psychoses the planet has yet seen.
This thread is a good testament to the real psychosis, sociopathy, and danger presented to the world by religion, religions, and its sycophantic, credulous, thoughtless followers.
And they say drug addiction is evil. At least junkies limit their deeds to stealing from their own neighbourhood, rather than trying to torture, mutilate, rape, and utterly destroy anyone who won't join their needle queue.
To gift so much power for social control into the the hands of so few who promulgate such insidious and inviting ideas and lies based on excelsior, fairy dust, and fantastic want is a terrifying thing indeed. But that indeed is what religion and religious leaders are all about. Some are worse than others, and some are almost benign, but in the end all religions while proposing peace, love, and respect for all things practice a far, far different creed of jihad, hate, and death to all things that don't blindly and without question, skepticism, or doubt follow the party line.
Bad puppies altogether in a sack is what religious folk are. And while I will most certainly respect your right to believe whatever fairytale gets you hot, and whatever never-neverland pumps your monkey, I do not respect your goofball, groundless ideas nor your forceful proselytizing.
Believe in what you want, that's everyone's right in the West, but please try to limit your damned indoctrinations to free and fair exchange of ideas rather than enforced and force-fed rules and regulations created by sociopaths intent on total social control. |

I'll continue to pray for you that you might find peace with the God of Israel through Christ our risen Savior

Pray on good madam, pray on. But, alas, I fear your tender words will be in vain. For I suspect I am what in the words of the religious can only be described an evil and unrepentant sinner of the first water.
Hmm, do you religionists use that "first water" term? It is a bit earthy, a bit fervid, florid, and pungent. |

No, we don't use the term "first water."
First fruit, yes. First water, no.
As far as being an evil and unrepentent sinner... "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."

Continuous, uninterupted prayer since Aug. 1, 1878. Gotta be a world record. They don't call them the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration for nothing.

Yet the world still tumbles tumultuously to heck in a handbasket.

Is the world a better 'place?' for having religion? It's no better and no worse. Religion isn't the problem, an unbalanced ego is. |

I can't see how an ego could be balanced. I would think you could have more or less of an ego, though I don't believe you could exist with no ego.
Or are you equating ego with "soul"? Which I don't believe in, either. I do think ego is a quite primitive electro/chemical subliminal survival mechanism that is probably closely associated with aggression. I think also that most of the inhibitory control of ego stems from higher brain function, ie intelligence. Therefore: intelligence > ego = okey dokey, intelligence < ego = oh oh.

My first thought was, well duh ...then after warming up the brain a bit, I would have to say that religion is not a good thing...the Pharisees and Sadducees (these guys were not Jews either) practiced religion.
Religion seems like a club where people can put on their "purties," and go to their Beth-avens to have their ears tickled, and to be seen...
Matthew 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Faith is another kettle of fish however... ...There is a vast difference between those that are "faithful", and those that are practicing (playing) religion...
Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. A person of faith, doesn't do things to be seen of men...they aren't spiritual exhibitionists, looking for poor lost souls to save, adding another notch in their spiritual belts. Christ does the saving...
They do unto others as they would have others do unto them...they treat everyone equally, not being a respecter of peoples positions...knowing that when they feed the hungry, they are feeding Christ...People of faith also know there is nothing hidden from God...they can't even entertain crappy thoughts...
So IMHO...religion=doctrines and traditions of men=hell on earth.
faith=a lifestyle based on love=the world is a better place.

That's a bit too easy and black and white isn't it chikengirl?
What about the religious faithful (or faithful religious), of whom there is a multitude? |

Not at all...and I'm not one to pick the fly-feces out of the pepper...There are many that would call themselves religious, and are truly faithful. |

An unbalanced ego simply means someone who lets their selfish impulses rule them, without concern for others. Whereas a balanced ego would be someone who has chosen to eschew selfishness in favor of selfless giving to others. |

A worthy pursuit, shamash. Tough enough to achieve as an individual, a demonically hard row to hoe universally. But a worthy pursuit, nonetheless.

About dinner next week, chickengirl, I have to wash my hair that day. Perhaps a raincheck.
