The USA have themselves a nice place in the north of the UK called Menwith Hill. Intelligence gathering, mainly the interception of all forms of electronic messaging from everyone. Nothing, but nothing escapes this set-up. Try getting close and you'll get picked up. Get caught with a "sniffer" or any radio equipment and you will have problems.

The system used for gathering is very sophisticated, certain key words are looked for and, if found, trigger an alarm. You can trip this system quite legitimately, then sit back and wait. Results interesting.

Hi Woody,

Put my post up before reading Dissident's links. It was seeing the word Echelon that prompted me.

I tripped it from home, many miles away. Distance doesn't matter with echelon.

Citizens/subjects of the UK are the most spied on in the western world. Police on patrol? you must be joking. To the vast majority of UK residents, having police on patrol is number 1 on their list of priorities. If only they knew the truth. There are no plod on patrol simply because they are not required, intelligence being gathered from projects such as echelon.

Orwell must be turning in his grave. Wonder if we should blame him for all this or thank him for the warning..........can't make my mind up......

Hey Mariner,
I am one of those Old Crows, (ECM..ECCCM..how far to do want to go. Cool )Electronic Warfare dudes, with real stories that Tom Clancy could not even publish. But I like John Peel's Home Truths better. Razz

Keep your linear amp within in specs and watch out for those sidebands.
I know what is behind the Green Door at Menwith Hill.

As Roosie said " "We have nothing to fear except fear itself"
(But now you can read 52 places on the Internet that Winston said it.)

It is about time we told the Yanks, Big Ben is the name of the largest bell in the clock on the houses of parliament, London, not the clock itself. It was named by members of parliament after the stout Commissioner of Works at the time, Sir Benjamin Hall. Big Ben (The bell, not the Commissioner) weighs 12 tons and measures 2.7 x 2.3 metres. Until 1913, the clock was wound by hand.

Your post has some facts mixed with fantasy and other parts in a time warp.

Col. Moammar is out of business on weapons of mass destruction. There IS stuff to dismantle.

Now we can just get the Russian to do the same and account for all the stuff they say is now lost..even though we have given the Millions of $$$ to do it already and they can not even tell us where the money went ..we might be on a roll.

The word Echelon ??? Yup, it trips lots of prompted words. Some declassified..but I can assure you..whatever You did from your home is not even in the log book.

I did see your "Citizens/subjects" reference. Sound like that British Nationality Act of 1981 that started in jan 1, 1983. Everyone gets a passport. Confused

Just a "harmless" conversation on your cell phone will do it. Citizens/subjects just me. Got a sovereign you're a subject. I may be stuck in a time warp but was on the dealing with end, not snuggled up behind a bank of monitoring equipment.

Can't go further. 100% in agreement with you on $$ to Russians. Of concern is what is happening to nuclear powered vessels lying rotting. Time bomb waiting to go off. Whole lot of dismantling needed there, before it's too late.

Yeah, that is a dangerous situation with the Russian Subs, especially the older models that have been sitting around. The US gave the Russians money to help dispose of their warheads, maybe European Union can help them with the Subs. Since they are on your back door it might be in your own interest. Might even be a new industry for some of those old ports in the UK that are suffering from economic stagnation.

Don't know if there is room enough, too many old US craft sitting waiting for their fate to be decided.

Do you really believe in this? There is no such technology. Go read some Azimov to fill your need for Sci Fi.
