Here is a little sound file Mariner sent me for posting. He will post the details in a follow up post.
Enjoy!!!!!
Howl and Growl
The volume is a little low at points so turn your speakers up for the full experience.

All will be revealed later. Really looking for feedback. Comments, anything, just say what you think of the sound, that's the important thing.
Could say, Awesome, Wow fantastic, great, Not bad, My '57 pickup sounds better, Think that's good, wait til you hear my lawn mower. Whatever.
I have to confess that it really gives me a buzz. But then, l lead a very sad life, a lot of it spent with very high powered propulsion units, that just happen to sound good. |

BRM V16 MKII.
Test conducted at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. Two and a 1/2 laps out of car sound and Two in car. This way, you get to hear what both the driver and the spectators heard

Although it had been fully developed the BRM V16 MKII was never raced in a Grands Prix, the regulations having been changed by the sports governing body for the following season.
From it's inception right up to the F1 Turbo era of the mid-1980's, it produced the most power per litre from a reciprocating engine, ever.
Power is delivered smoothly up to about 6,000 rpm. Thereafter, power output doubles with every 2,000 rpm, right up to the 12,000 limit.
Reliability was a major issue with the MKI and was no less of a problem with the MKII. During development, 350 separate suppliers became involved, causing problems with quality control.
At the time of testing the car, it was not possible to exceed 9,500 rpm, the engine cutting out. The reasons for this were never fully understood and this was further compounded by having none of the original mechanics or engineers to assist or advise. The mis-fire can clearly be heard and, as stated, ocurrs at approx 9,500 Rpm.
In spite of all this, the BRM V16 remains THE most evocative sounding car...ever. It is not just the sheer volume of sound it produces but also the intensity of it. The BRM V16 is instantly recognisable. It combines the bass rumblings of a Nascar V8 with the high pitched whine of a modern F1 car.
My first introduction to the BRM V16 MKII came some years ago while at the Brands Hatch circuit. The great Stirling Moss was giving a demonstration run of the car. I was hooked. Had to have more to do with it. One thing led to another and resulted in my part in this project.
I'm privileged to have been involved with such an amazing car and the testing of it, in spite of the many difficulties experienced in getting it to run.
* Modern testing and measuring equipment do not work well with cars like this, the cars electrical systems causing havoc with them.*

Here is a picture of the sister to the car in the sound file. I will let Mariner fill you in on the details of this one.

Not to sound un-impressed but have you ever been to a drag strip where 14000 BHP(7000 per funny car or dragster) is blasting by you in an instant? It is actually painful to your body as well as your ears. After one day of racing, you are covered in a thick layer of 90% burnt Nitromethane and rubber. It's something that must be experienced in order to understand.
There is no sound system that can reproduce that much power. (my condolences to the motorcity madman) |

dolphins, what can l say? Well, let me see.......yes, i've been to Santa Pod and watched and listened. In fact, where l have moved to, there is a guy with an E93A Ford with 7litres under the hood and he runs at various european tracks.
14,000 BHP is a little mundane for me. Yes, have run that sort of power and then some. How does 47,000BHP sound to you, and in one lump to boot? Then picture two of 'em in parallel. Picture four, two of each coupled in two banks. Now, that is power!!!
To the BRM. Considering what it is and what it was built for, it is quite an amazing machine. Don't forget it was built in 1955! Oh, and it lays it's power down through a TOTAL of ten inches of rubber -that's the combined width of the contact patch of both rear tyres.
And the sound. Well, as per article, it's not just the volume but also the intensity of it. Sadly, the audio does not do it justice. The Mk1 did race competitively and although not quite as powerful; 550 BHP, it did cause other drivers to complain, saying that it was distracting and that they could not hear their own engines! That in a thirty car grid as well.
My TV can take it, get some drag racing shown now and again. |

Hi claire,
Glad you liked it. Spa Francorchamp and Monaco are my two favourite circuits. Silverstone is very good, as were Hockenheim and Nurburgring before they became emasculated.
Get yourself a good view of eau rouge, not what it was since the gravel trap was replaced by an extended run-off area, but to drive it properly, you have to be inch perfect!
Whoops! not permitted to use imperial measurements anymore, all metric now. Please don't tell the thought police....can't afford the fine for quoting in imperial. |
