We haven't had one of these threads for a while so I thought I'd start one...
What is your First Alert hit rate for the last week?
Mine is hovering around 20 percent. |

Wish I could give you an actual factual stats output Stan. As it stands, I'm going from memory which isn't always reliable especially since I find quite a variation in report ratio.
In fact I've had a few sessions where all SPAM received had been reported inse the previous session (perhaps 10 or 15 SPAMs received). At other sessions I've had zero or very few SPAMs reported. An average of 20% might be somewhat low in my case but I'll attempt to keep some better mental notes for a week or so.

I am about the same as you Ikeb,
My average appears to about 25% at the moment, the spam database has been offline a couple of times this week. |

Almost certainly all of these would have been caught by my own filters. This means that paying for FA! would be more an act of altruism than anything else. However, I might still do that if the cost is small. |

What am I doing wrong?
Does this include the spam I send to FA?
Does FA overrules the DNS blacklist servers?
For a good test should we disable the DNS servers? |

Assuming you're referring to the stats, in order:
No
Yes
Not required.

It seems to have stabilised on a daily rate as well - around 42%. I must admit, I was expecting it to get around 70% by now. My normal filters/RBL achieve 40% so I'm not too sure whether it justifies any payment! |

My low FA hit rate has puzzled me for some time. Stats for the last four weeks: total e-mails received approx 2765, e-mails bounced 2340; e-mails deleted 2489; FA 76 (2.8%) RBL 72 (only spam database activated, 2.8%) ; User Filters 2; Blacklisted 2250 (81%). I have set up a variety of filters using wild cards, etc. based on the characteristics of spam received --- with automatic processing, these work very well, saving me a great deal of time. False positives have been an inconsequential percentage of my mail.
I stopped reporting to FA around Christmas, when my FA hit rate dropped so low reporting did not seem worth the effort. |

MY FA flagging is running about 18% in the last week. However, my filters are now probably 98%+ effective thanks to info from this site and tweaks I've made.
Seems to me the FA premise has a fallacy at least for those of us who are online a lot of each day. When a new spam comes out that doesn't match any FA profile, those of us online receive it within minutes of issue and therefore can't benefit from it being flagged. So unless FA comes up with some miracle programming they haven't demonstrated to date, I'm afraid the FA concept won't be effective. |

Maybe the reason for my low FA hit rate is the effectiveness of my filters? |

Twitchy Submit clicking finger?
Your filters have no relationship to the FA! hit rate. In theory FA! could replace all of your own filters. Of course that's in Theory ... I don't suppose Theory is near Atlanta by any chance?
