Hope this is in the right forum, but can anyone tell me what this file is? It keeps appearing all over the place.

Thanks, Paul, for the very helpful response and quote.
The only thing I see about thumbnails in the Folders Options>View relates to "Do not cache thumbnails." It was unchecked, is this where I check?

Actually for me I just delete mine every so often. They just get rebuilt.. you can consider the file as a sort of index for images when viewed in explorer.

Paul, FYI, it seems that they are deleted when the "Do not cache thumbnails" is checked.

| I'm getting a different problem with my thumbnail options... for some reason, when I choose thumbnail, the icon won't turn into a picture preview like it should.. not sure if somehow the whole thing is corrupt or not, but the only way I can preview pictures is to customize folders so that when I click on an icon it previews in a window on the left. Any suggestions on how to get my thumbnails working properly again? |

Yes the db might be corrupt. Try removing it.

| Sorry for my complete ignorance on this subject. I don't even have the thumbs.db files in my directories anymore. When you click on the "thumbnails" option, it would normally be created, but it's not being created anymore. Any suggestions? |

| images in thumb.db are stored in jpeg format, but without the quantization tables and huffmann codes. |

| Microsoft has a fix if you are unable to view thumbnails. Search Microsofts knowledge database for Cannot View Thumbnail Image (Q243401). Follow the instructions and you should be viewing in no time. |

This is info is what I needed. Thanks... just joined today and already proved useful.
This is the first time I have seen this one. I am having a bit of a spy problem  and checking out files. And I will catch up with the person hopefully... Does anyone know what the best spy remover is? A nice powerful one.
