From this article: http://www.idg.net/ic_1186300_9677_1-5042.html

On the face of it, this seems to be good attempted legislation and oversight.

However, I'm still holding out for a complete moratorium on all "bills" or "drafts" of additions to existing "Acts" that affect/impact the rights and/or freedoms of AMERICAN citizens .

Anyone wishing to have their voices heard about these issues (pro or con), can go here: http://www.cdt.org/action/tia/ - entering your zip code in the field under the flag will get you your Senator's phone number .

Going here, on the other hand, ( http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp ) will enable you to let your feelings be known to your representative via email or fax on five of the issues that're being watched there. (The directions for sending them are pretty easy - signing up there makes it even easier).

Speak up, people - time is growing very short in which you'll have the opportunity/privilege/right to do so. Pete

(Such a negative thought! Tsk-tsk! Smile ).

Actually, this is where actually being innocent of anything works in your favor!

Not cheating on your taxes? Then no worry about being audited, should it come to that.

Not doing anything illegal? Then why worry about being investigated by "Justice" (bad terminology, there!).

The good, upstanding lawful people of this country are precisely the ones who we need to be screaming their heads off about this stuff to their legislators!

Some of us are screaming Spy1 Very Happy Rap you Congressman up side the head with this one.

Andy Rooney on Oil:

There are a lot of folks who can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in the USA. Well, there's a very simple answer:

Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know that we were getting low.

The reason for this is purely geographical...... All the oil is in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Alaska, etc.

All the dipsticks are in Washington, DC

I would like to get into a debate about privacy and rights of American Citizens.

American Citizens are afforded the most privacy and the most rights out of any modern day civilized nation. It is the greatest Nation on Earth.

Now.. getting to the article that has you all hot and bothered..
Read this quote from the article.. then read the second quote. Note how
Senator Spector, a Senator from my home state of Pennsylvania does not even understand what he is talking about.

Quote:
Both the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the Patriot Act expanded federal agents' access to electronic surveillance. Under the surveillance act, investigators need only convince a special Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that the proposed spying target is an "agent of foreign power" as opposed to demonstrating probable cause that the individual is involved in criminal activity.

Quote:
Specter says the incompetence goes "straight to the top," saying Mueller and his deputies cannot clearly define FISA standards and say what denotes "probable cause" to get warrants from a FISA court.

If you need to convince the FISA court that your target is "an agent of a foreign power" and you don't need probable cause. Then why is Spector saying that Mueller and his deputies cannot clearly define FISA standards and say what denotes probable cause.

It is time for the liberals to step aside. You see what liberal thinking has gotten us, attacked in Oaklohma City and attacked in NYC, and Wash DC.

I am for impacting the rights of so-called citizens. The ones that have just came over from another county, the ones who have just received their "natrualized citizenships". The same people who are funding the terrorists that seek to destroy us.

I can tell you that the average citizen enjoys more privacy and freedom today, because of the forward thinking of people in the past that made it possible for "spies" to do their job properly.

I can say a hearty "Amen!" to that, tank.

If the government would simply change the wording of The Patriot Act, P2 and CAPPS2 (plus whatever else they've got up their sleeves) to impact only foreigners or recently (within the last decade) naturalized citizens - then I wouldn't have a problem with any of this.

I stated as much on our local news' website: http://news.wbt.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimat...001385;p=1 yesterday. Pete

Probably because the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were written regarding American citizens - not immigrants.

Let's not mis-understand here, okay?

If a person is a legal immigrant, and in the process of becoming or has become an American citizen, then they, too, should have all the rights and privileges guaranteed by the above two documents.

The whole thrust of my objections to all the current and pending legislations that adversely impact our rights and freedoms is that none of that legislation should be applied against American citizens.

WE are not the enemy! Pete
