|

MYIE2 is my defaulted web browser. Proxo 4.5 is set to JD's configuration and nothing else has been done to proxo. In order fro proxo to work, I have set IE6's proxy to 127.0.0.1 and have set MYIE proxy to proxo. Lately, but not all the time, when my home page (http://my.yahoo.com/p/d.html?v), or sometimes some of the links within this home page come up, proxo says it can't find the page. However, clicking on Refresh brings the site up. Of course it is a pain when the wanted site doesn't load intially. Any ideas as to what's happening? Interestingly, MYIE gives you the net server's IP and this problem usually arise when it is 127.0.0.1. Other times the IP listed is that of my real server. Thanks for the help,
Adam

I'm not sure what you mean there, but it sounds as if the site is being slow to respond. Are you running with a host file? Try opening a log window & see what it shows.

Hello Flycaster,
That is not an uncommon occurrence with IE-based browsers if a web site is experiencing a large amount of traffic or if you have several browser windows/tabs downloading web pages simultaneously. Placing Proxo in bypass mode seems to help in those circumstances, so you might try adjusting your filters.
To run Proxo with MyIE2 you shouln't have to place Proxo in IE. I often run IE without a web page filter while running Proxo on MyIE2.
Try setting your MyIE2 proxy settings to:
Name: localhost
Proxy: 127.0.0.1:8080 |

As long as you don't go crazy with it another way to really speed IE up through a proxy is to raise the number of connections per server.
The normal defaults follow HTTP specs of 2 for HTTP/1.1 and 4 for HTTP/1.0 However, using a proxy this can be very limiting. The proxy itself is considered the "host" so it acts as a hard limit to the number of connections IE will make in total.
You can up these to any value you like in the registry - here's an example setting each to 8...
Code: |
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000008
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000008
|
Resist the temptation to set it too high though. Too many connections can be counter productive and if you go really overboard, some web sites may even see it as abuse and block you.

Interestingly, MYIE gives me the net server' sIP and this problem arise when it is 127.0.0.1 (proxy address) and also when my regular broadband server's IP is showing in the status bar. In other words, why does the IP in the status bar keep changing and does this effect the proxo/refresh problem?

When you say proxo can't find the site do you mean a hostname lookup error? If so it would be DNS related. Are you using any type of DNS filter (like DNSKong) or a custom host file?
From a command line you can also try typing
Code: |
nslookup www.somehostname.com |
to see if the name will properly resolve. If not, you'll know the problem isn't proxy or IE related, but more likely your DNS settings or ISP.
Also when you say "MYIE proxy to proxo" shouldn't it be 127.0.0.1 (plus proxo's port) just like IE? I don't use it so can't say for sure, but it sounds strange that MyIE would show the proxy address in the status bar. Could it be that a host file or DNSKong entry is mapping some hostnames to 127.0.0.1 (a trick sometimes used by folks as another way to kill ads)? See if you have a file named "hosts" (with no extension) anywhere in your windows directory, and if so what entries it may have in it...
95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Really the only way I could see a hostname lookup error coming from Proxo's filtering is if you had some web filter altering the hostname of your links. That's easy enough to check for by loading the page in debug mode and looking for filter hits.
