Does the Earth revolve around the Sun, or is the Earth the centre of the universe?
For 350 years the Roman Catholic Church insisted that it was correct to charge Galileo with heresy for insisting that the Earth revolved around the Sun. Galileo's ideas went against religious teaching that stated the Earth was the absolute centre of the universe.
In 1992 the Roman Catholic Church acknowledged that Galileo was right and that the Earth does, after all, revolve around the Sun. To quote:
"On 31 October 1992, 350 years after Galileo's death, Pope John Paul II gave an address on behalf of the Catholic Church in which he admitted that errors had been made by the theological advisors in the case of Galileo. He declared the Galileo case closed, but he did not admit that the Church was wrong to convict Galileo on a charge of heresy because of his belief that the Earth rotates round the sun." [emphasis added]
Jeezums! Did the Church get it wrong 350 years ago? Or, did the Church get it wrong in 1992? How did either error occur? Didn't the Church use the word of God to argue its case? Was God wrong?
Discuss!

This whole subject has been computed by mathematical astronomy. It is an exacting science. People who prefer to see the Earth as the center of the physical universe may not be far wrong, however. That same mathematical astronomy also states that every point in an infinite universe is the center of it. So, it matters not what revolves around what. In an infinite physical universe, Earth is at the center and always has been. So too, is the Sun and everything else! Differences in relative distances disappear with infinite magnitudes.

Ah you forget one thing, the sun revolves around me. I am the centre to the universe.
I suggest adding one more item to your poll, mentioning that the universe revolves around Blast (haven't you heard of the big bang theory)
I bet ya, that I will win!!!!

Very interesting Artist-Who-Was-Once-Known-As-Serendip. Although the concept of an infinite universe boggles my rationalist brain. I've heard recent rumours of multiple universes grinding up against each other, expanding, contracting, pseudo-big banging. A little more satisfying but of course does nothing to address the infinite/finite problem. In the halcyon days of my youth, during one of these conversations, someone stated that our universe is merely an atom in the running shoe of a giant.
Also, I would pick a bone of contention with the impossible situation of having more than one centre. If all points are simultaniously the centre point then "centre" loses any rational definition.
Then there is motion. Expansion, contraction, revolution (we'll ignore traversal here). Given said motions, any moving point in a universe must be moving in relation to a central point, your proverbial "centre of the universe."
My answer to this poll would be "E"-None of the above.

Well now, while deep philosophy is all fine and well and certainly has its place (though not at any one central location I warrant), that's not the subject of the poll.
I'm not polling centres. I'm polling rotational bodies, and just two of them to be specific. |

Don't mind me, must've gotten dizzy from all that motion. Given that perception is our "reality", I'll vote for "A". The earth revolves around the star we call sun, as the earth revolves, the sun revolves in the MW Galaxie, the galaxie revolves in the universe, the universe probably revolves in the local conglomeration of universes ad infinitum ad nauseum..urrrp!
