I encountered this problem about 2 weeks ago and I have been unable to fix it.

Basically, when I go to View > Toolbars, everything is grayed out except "Text Labels". However, of the options that are grayed out, "Lock Toolbars" is not listed. In fact, the only options are Standard Buttons, Address Bar, and Links.

I have visited countless forums and nothing seems to address this. I have tried CWShredder and various other utilties out there. I have even tried HackThis and deleted everything it found. Still the same result. I have even fished thorugh my registry and cannot find any restrictions.

Help!

Hi there AlexM,

Can you open HiJack again and and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log in a text file, and post it back here on this thread

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I updated Spybot S&D and reran it, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Specifically, I have a toolbar with an "ISEARCH" icon on it.

hi, i am new to this site, so if i am disobeying any rules can someone tell me.

AlexM, no guarentees but the method worked for me.

The Isearch toolbar is the main cause recently, it is an adware/spy thing.

step 1) You need to get rid of the toolbar, here is an uninstaller link:

http://toolbar.isearch.com/uninstall/

When you enter that website, you will be asked if you would like to install the Isearch toolbar remover. Once you click "Yes" and download the uninstall file, it will automatically remove the Isearch toolbar from your Internet Explorer.

If you are lucky it might have worked so forget step 2.

step 2) after you do that open the system registry editor (start, run, REGEDIT).

Go to this place ,in the system registry editor,:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

click once on the EXPLORER folder, you should have this the right hand side screen:

(default)
Btn_Search
NoBandCustomize
NoDriveTypeAutoRun
NoToolbarCustomize
SpecifyDefaultButtons

DO NOT DELETE ANY THING . backup explorer folder if you want to (not nessesory)

delete the keys instructed below inside the explorer folder on the right hand side of the screen:

(how to delete: right click, press delete)

NoToolbarCustomize
NoBandCustomize

then exit.

No guarntees but it should work.

cool-kid

Although we appreciate the help we would prefer if you left the HijackThis Logs to our Experts. Too many people responding tends to confuse the help seeker and interfere with the work our Expert(s) are doing. We thank you for your participation, but would respectfully request that you discontinue the practice of posting in HJT threads. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I refer you to the "Read Before Posting" article

CCSP Staff

and to AlexM .... Please post your hijack log so we can have a look at it

Thanks. That appeared to do it. I guess I was apprehensive about trusting their own uninstall program. And yeah, your right I coulda looked this up. Thanks.

Ya know what..
None of your 'experts' helped at all. The only person who actually did help in any form was cool-kid. He even stated that it could be a risk following his directions, and he informed the person that they should back the reg keys up. The instructions he gave are 100% legitimate, and he doesn't owe you any appologies. None of your experts fixed the problem.. cool-kid, has.

STFU.

Hi,

So what's the verdict on the i search toolbar removal? I tried cool-kids download uninstaller, but I just got a can't do that message. Should I go ahead and do Cool-Kid's step 2 for the regirstry? How can I get this thing out of my computer?
Thanks so much for your help!!
