Before you start - could you please zip and email C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll (and sp.html if you can find it) to me - TIA
Send it to jack_macaulay @ telus.net (remove the spaces around the @ sign in that email address.

Download and run CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom
Run it, press 'Fix', and allow it to fix all it finds.

Run HijackThis again, push Scan and place a check mark next to the following items using your mouse.
Next, close all browser Windows, and push the 'Fix checked' button in HijackThis
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1AE30A7C-43E6-434F-9400-697E9A0579D0} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Reboot

Download Spybot - Search and Destroy
After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and after SpyBotSD has completed it's scan push the 'Fix checked' button for all that it has automatically selected.

Post a fresh log when you're done

Download TheKillbox

Download the LATEST version of CWShredder from near the bottom of http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html - unzip it somewhere

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
To do so use Control Panel > Internet Options(or right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Properties)
Click Delete Files on the General Tab - place a check in the Delete all offline content box and then press OK

Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp\ folder

Extract TheKillBox.exe from the zip file, placing it somewhere to keep.
In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste this entry
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll
Click 'Find and Kill This File'.
The mem.dll file will be in use and killbox should try to get it on the reboot.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, download and run: http://www.javacoolsoftware.net/downloa...esetup.exe Then try TheKillbox again.

Reboot to SAFE mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis again, push Scan and place a check mark next to the following items using your mouse.
Not all of these entries will still be present - but make sure you get the ones that are.
Next, close all browser Windows, and push the 'Fix checked' button in HijackThis
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AACBFC8D-3A48-49C4-98B4-EF05866BB6A0} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll

Run CWShredder while in SAFE mode.

Reboot

There are some things which need cleaning up - I'll pop back later with some registry info.

I'm glad to hear that your homepage stayed Smile I'm not sure how much of the following cwshredder got - it will no doubt be updated soon.

Fix this one with HJT
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Please run Regedit and check some things

It's possible that hese 2 registry keys exist
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/html
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter\text/plain

If they exist then there will be a number as a "CLSID" value entered in them
Make a note of this number (it'll look somethng like {3E18284E-09D5-49B8-8AAA-E6426670699F})

Now highlight the text/plain entry and choose to delete it
Do the same for the text/htmlentry
Leave the remainder of the entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter\ alone

Navigate to the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1AE30A7C-43E6-434F-9400-697E9A0579D0}
key (may no loger exist) and delete the CLSID
(it will reference C:\WINDOWS\System32\mem.dll )

Navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CLSID number you noted earlier} key and delete it

Have a look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main "Use Custom Search URL"
to make sure the value is 00, 00, 00, 00 there and not 01, 00, 00, 00

You've probably been reinfected and will need to start with the deletion of the bho file in safe mode or with killbox (and it's name might well have changed)
