I hope someone can help me with this as so far everything and every other forum i've posted to hasn't garnered a response! I had F-secure installed but it wouldn't work with zone alarm so I uninstalled it. Prob is, now ZA won't work, all I get is a system error, please reboot. I've done this, uninstalled it and reinstalled it etc etc

None of the regular software detectors can find anything so I assume it's
hidden in the registry (I did find 2 mentions of F-Secure in the registry and deleted them but the problem still persists). Any ideas how I can resolve this as I don't have a firewall at the mo!

(I have used an alternative version of ZA but still no luck)

many thanks

There is indeed a known conflict with Zone Alarm and F-Secure. The folks at F-Secure have released a HotFix for the problem. You will find Hotfix 1 here. See if that will do the trick. Smile

Thanx for the hotfix tip, but it worked fine until I rebooted. Now ZA is back to being a red box with a yellow square in it (wheh I open ZA it says system error please reboot - which i've been doing for over an hour but no joy).
Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can get these 2 applications to work properly?

I think a new clean install is what I would try next. See if this will work for you. Go into the start menu and the zonelabs entry and right click on the uninstaller and select properties. Now in the target box you must add a space and then /clean to the end so that it looks something like this"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean click apply and then OK. Next open ZA and turn off the load on boot option, then reboot and then run the uninstaller. This should get rid of all of ZoneAlarm. Now go to your windows temp folder and delete everything. Find the folder named Internet logs and delete it then empty your recycle bin. Now download and install the latest version of the Zone Alarm you are using...Free, Plus or Pro.

The only thing I can suggest now is a complete manual uninstall of Zone Alarm. Here is a link to Zone Labs Support page.

I'd contact F-Secure and ask them if their product or Zone Alarm should be reinstalled first. Sorry, that probably is not the answer you seek. Maybe someone else has more experience.

well I d/l Agnitum firewall and that locked up the pc - couldn't do a bloody thing! Even when I did the ctrl alt delete it just laughed it off! I bloody give up with these firewalls, how come none of the AV & firewall software is compatable with each other? I'm now running the firewall that comes with XP but it can't be that much cop as it was running anyway (yeah I have tried turning this off and running ZA but I still get the red box/yellow x). So, has anyone got the f-secure forewall software they could seed?????

I've run various combinations of AVG and Avast anti-virus and Kerio, Sygate, and ZoneAlarm firewalls with no compatability problems. Smile

Have had same the same problems after installing the version of f-secure internet security 2004.
Even after deinstallation of f-secure the new installed Zonealarm won't work.
Worked, without any success, with different registry cleaners and found a lot of f-secure entries even after deinstallation!! (Search for f-secure, backweb).
Compared exported registry branches from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE before and after installation of f-secure with the Totalcommander.
Here is the solution:
Login with administrative rights
Make a backup of the registry
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Search for Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSMON
Right mouseclick on the enty to change the right for deleting
Delete all LEGACY_VSMON entries
Reinstall ZoneAlarm

Hope you'll have success!
