I have ben running XP and Netscape 7.01 with Mailwasher Pro v4, Norton Internet Security 2004 Professional and Norton Sysytemworks 2004 sucessfully for some time. Yesterday I downloaded Benign and thought that I had set it up OK. However although Mailwasher still operates sucessfully, I get the alert message ''Could not connect to server mailhost. etc.au.b9; the connection was refused' when I try and download the email into Netscape. When I remove the 'b9' suffix from Mail and Account Settings in Netscape Mail the problem disappears. Any help would really be appreciated. |

Hi Yarrowfell,
I have a similar setup except I use IE instead of Netscape. Occasionally when downloading messages I have to take the Bp suffix off the server. I have no idea why - re-boot etc and reinstall makes no difference.
Not sure why. However, in the same session once I do the download and then add the suffice - it runs well.
A mystery.

Same here, using b9 with IE6, experiancing same problems as you describe. It was a fresh download to-day (Friday). It was going well until I closed down and when I returned it was "a lost cause". Had similar problems with earlier version, I thought maybe with fresh version it would be sorted out. No.

Hello, a little bit more information just in case it helps someone sort out the problem. As usual when I remove the "b9" from server information mail travels without a problem.
When I add the b9 again and try to send test email the message is;
"Find incoming mail server (POP3) Failed."
I hope this helps someone help us.

But in your case, when adding the '.B9', it stops working ... period, if I understand what you and Yarrowfell have reported. However your problem may well be different than mcullet's problem. In that case, with the '.B9' extension in place, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't work.
Check your host file to make sure that there's a section that appears as follows:
Code: |
# Begin B9
127.98.9.x <mailserver_domain_name>.b9
# End B9 |
The "<mailserver_domain_name>" represents whatever your mailserver domain name is.

Thanks Ikeb for reply. Yesterday after I installed b9 it worked OK for that session. But when I went back on again last night it wouldn't work at all.
It hasn't worked to-day so far. If it works once that would mean it is set up correctly. I checked all settings before logging on now and all appears
OK. I will check Hosts file and look for what you describe.

Hi again Ikeb, my ISP is Virgin.net
I entered mailserver_domain_name as, <mail_virgin_net>
Is that the correct way to enter it? If it is then I am out of luck again.

Nope. <mailserver_domain_name> was intended as a pseudo name. <mailserver_domain_name> represents mail.virgin.net (assuming that's your POP server domain name i.e. the server domain name that was configured in your email client's account settings) so you would enter mail.virgin.net.B9

Looks like we have cracked it. I added the domain names in the form I displayed.
I opened "Options" and added my three email addresses to "Domain and Address Override" the floodgates opened and about 15 test emails came flooding through with the "This message has been processed by Firetrust Benign" at the bottom of all of them. Keep my fingers crossed until to-morrow. Thanks for your interest Ikeb.

Despair, not cracked yet. Went like clockwork Saturday evening. Then
returned to "Stop Go" business. I wonder is there really a cure for this bug? It's a pity as it is such a useful utility.
This also is not correct I guess, "Domain and Address Override". Adding my email address there but it looked like that on Saturday cause as soon as it was added all hell was let loose.

Dunno that it can be considered a bug until the problem is isolated. Hopefully Hamster can suggest an approach.
As to the override, what happened?
BTW, do you send yourself a lot of mail? Beware that SPAMers sometimes forge the recipient's email address in the "From:" field. So if you don't filter those out with MWP (or some other antiSPAM product) and you have lowered the security profile for your address, you could be causing yourself some additional headaches.

Hello Ikeb, I studied the Override item for a while and thought it wasn't the proper thing for me to do. I reckoned it was for outside URL.
Normally I don't send myself any mail, but with trying to get this sorted I have sent a ton of test emails, only way to find out if it is working or not.
Do you use b9 yourself and how does yours behave
Does Hamster follow the forum. He is a quiet sort of a fellow.

I've used B9 for over a year and I find it to be rather benign. My only complaints involve the logs and the difficulty of finding the log records associated with particular msgs, etc. Rather benign complaints eh?
Indeed Hamster is rather benign as well. Gender not yet determined though ....
