|
|
I can’t install NAV 2004. I get the following message.
ErrorMessage: Product: Norton AntiVirus 2004 -- Error 1312. Cannot create the directory ‘C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{C6F5B6CF-609C-428E-876F-CA83176C021B}’. A file with this name already exists.
And, of course, there is no such file.
Symantec suggests that I use Microsoft’s Clean up utility and ‘refresh’ the Microsoft Installer program file (Msiexec.exe).
I’ve downloaded the cleanup utility, http://support.microsoft.com/default.as...-us;290301 - which can be used to remove the installation database of all the applications installed using MS Installer program. If I do this I then have to re-install the applications. I’ve done a couple - with no effect.
I’m not quite clear on Symantec’s logic. I can install other programs but not NAV. Why will reinstalling applications like MS Office solve the problem?
If anyone can offer any help I would be very grateful. |

Go on to the internet and in the address bar put in
C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{C6F5B6CF-609C-428E-876F-CA83176C021B}. This may work and if anything comes up then it may tell you how to check if it is on the system and if so how to read it.

I resolved this by deleting the C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{C6F5B6CF-609C-428E-876F-CA83176C021B} file at the command line. Very obvious when you think of it.
So why doesn't C:\WINDOWS\Installer appear in Explorer?? |

Yes, I know (now): Explorer{tools}{folder options}{View}Untick - "Hide protected operating system files".
Isn't there something sad about answering your own posts? |
