AVG tells me I have a backdoor trojan as soon as I start up. I have run trojan guarder which tells me I have trojan svhost.exe.

I have downloaded CW shredder but cannot open it. It cannot read from the source disk and will not erxtract into another folder. I also cannot open nor download hijack this.

Any ideas (save from getting a new PC)?

Here's a symantec writeup on one trojan that uses that file.

New computer wont do you any good long term-you'll just have the problem again sometime.

If the system will let you run an on-line virus scan from trendmicro or pandasoft, you can see if that will fix the problem.

If you cant do that, I think the next thing I'd try would be to get a friend or someone at work to download hijackthis for me and get a hijackthis log to post that way.

You will get a more expert review of your log if you register and post in the hijackthis forum in the site.

Thanks for your advice

I deleted svc host.exe following the run Regdit instrunstions. Only to have it reappear again after I deleted it. In normal mode the Pc closes down the run dialog box after about 20 seconds and will not let me open any executables.
I had a friend send me hiajck this via email but it will not copy read or run from the source file. Eihter in safe mode or whne prompted from a CD rom or floppy.

I also have a backdoor trojan hacdef.c in my C/winnt hx defdrv.sys but I can't find it.

How do I get rid of these things?

Help
