and OTHERS

all of them have pro and contra, we can try to list them, but different needs for different persons brings different conclusions for taking the right browser.

well going to think this over in the weekend, and post my conclusions in the beginning of next week

guess youneed to keep somethings in your mind..... when looking for a good browser for yourself.

this is what i mean :
- what websites do I look for and what browser do they support ? (e.g. location : europe <-> USA websites )
- what do i want to do on the web ?
- what are the available plugs ?
- what document i reed (e.g. PDF, EXCEL,....) from the web ?
- what browser gets less HiJacked ( lol ) ?
- if you have a favorite , what would you like to see added to it ?

IMHO - Mozilla Firebird is the best browser I have used for speed and easy of use...I might elaborate more if I have time...

I pulled the plug on IE last week myself. Have been using Netscape since then, and so far like it pretty well. I like the browser "tab" options on it. Was easy to move my IE "favorites" over also. Best thing about it, of course, is no more spyware/adware crud.

well going to trow something that will stand for mosr belgium guys/girls.

We just have to much websites that build for being used with MicrosoftIE
if you want a nice view of the website. when going on them with Netscape you got sometimes in to ugly results, i must say , this is getting better , as the most important websites are profesionaly build for both those exploreres, but i can tell you that it was horrible in the beginning.

Now ofcours microsoftIE has been causing anybody problems, but i still use it out of habbit, and about netscape well i'm satisfide by it to.

If those 2 could melt into 1 it would bring an almost perfect result for me.

Call me old fashioned, hard headed, etc., but I still use IE and have no plans of changing in the future. The way I see it is this: As these third party browsers become more popular you will see many of the security risks associated with IE cropping up in them. I am familiar with IE, comfortable tweaking it and have no desire to learn another browser. So, if/until I start experiencing problems with IE it will remain my browser of choice.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I use Avant Browser. It is not a stand alone Browser. He needs the IE.

Now I'm using version 9.0.1.121

Like it said on the linked forum thread: you're likely to start a browser war here. It might be better to start a new thread and get it out of this one in order to get a more varied and valuable survey.

But, since you asked, I prefer Mozilla (developmental) right now. It does not get bogged down with proprietary code of Netscape(AOL) so its code footprint stays a little cleaner and faster IMO.

I prefer a GUI interface so Lynx, among text-based applications, is used by me only for development. I code for universal access so Lynx works, but it is just too inconvenient - and unneccesary.

MSIE - don't get me started. A security nightmare with proprietary notions of coding. Not quite utter crap but the least versatile browser application despite dominant market position. I despise it but find it to be a neccesary evil since so many webmasters code for it.

Netscape - very nice but a little bulky.

Mozilla - standards compliant, loaded, and under constant development. My browsing suite of choice.

Firefox - the same Mozilla lineage, but I haven't used it. Mozilla proper's suite serves me well.

Mosaic - a little too light and featureless for my taste.

Opera - terrific browser, the most standards compliant and the most innovative IMO with the smallest footprint. Probably the most secure "major" browser because it avoids many OS hooks/plug-ins. This may cause some inconvenience but that is the trade-off that you make for security. The application suite is a little bare compared to some of the others but they are getting better. I develop with Opera in mind first then tweak for Mozilla and MSIE.
