run Norton Antivirus (Home) 2003 -- have kept virus definitions up to date, and run a scan periodically
I recently have had serious slow down problems and the computer locking up with CTR-ALT-DEL providing no window to end tasks. Have had to literally pull the plug many times.
when I open my internet browser I get a authentic looking norton warning about having a virus identified as vbs.redlof.a in file
C://Documents & Settings/owner/local...\p10[1].htm
When I search for that file I come up with bumpkis - zilch
Norton message says it cannot access file - I have run Norton scan several times both in safe mode and in normal.
I asked a friend and he said to download and run spybot search and destroy, and ad - aware - which I have done numerous times.
The problem persists. I have also unistalled wildtangent games and kazaa. I have run the CW Shredderprogram available on this site...
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated...
Thanks in advance. |

I am getting this, too, and I can't get rid of it. I've tried the spybot and ad-aware, both of which helped get rid of a lot of other junk, but no luck with "Redlof." I also believe it is a fake virus. I went to the Symantec site and read up on the virus. None of the registry entries that I'm supposed to delete are in the registry to begin with. Also, this is an old virus, and I keep my definitions up to date. It's some kind of vicious pop-up. I would appreciate hearing if you've had any luck getting rid of it, or if anyone else has a suggestion. Thanks. |

Try these:
1. Try to boot your comp in safe mode and delete manualy the files raported corupted or virused.
These virus are located in files *.htt, ex. desktop.htt
2. Save the pathes from symantec or other antivirus maker... and use.... |

i have some what of the same problem.. I was browsing earlyer today and Norton detected the virus "VBS.REdof.A" and continued to load the page. I deleted all the files in my "Temp intrnet files" and ran a AntiVirus Scan (upto date) and nothing came up?! my home page remains the same "about:blank" i have not yet restarted the computer since i've gotten the virus. Any help please? do i really have a virus? i do not remember but i read somewhere that zone alarm gets rid of VBS viruses? |
