|
|
This is my first post on Computer Cops. Could I please get some help from some of you savvy folks?
I will summarize my problem as succinctly as possible, but its still a bit long. Please forgive and bear with me.
Primary Issue:
Hijack This was picking up a 017 entry. Turns out (after much troubleshooting), it appears to be just my ISP connection. However, of the two DNS addresses listed on the line, only the first (the preferred DNS) belongs to my ISP. The Help Dept. confirmed this, and they do not know who owns the second (alternate). They told me their true alternate, and it is only one number off from the one that was automatically being obtained by my computer at log-in. I did a search for this IP address at IP2LOCATION.COM, and it says that it does not belong to my ISP, but to AT&T Worldnet. Either my ISP help dept. is wrong or the IP search engine in wrong.
Questions:
a) How can I confirm the identity of the supposed alternate DNS?
b) Why would my computer automatically obtain a wrong DNS address?
c) Should I be concerned that Hijack This is listing my connection as a hijack (017)?
Correllary Issue:
What made me think all along that this line in HJT was actually a hijack, was that after a while on line (the actual time varies), pages stop loading. Sometimes they just come in blank, sometimes I get the "Cannot Load" screen. This always affects all my browsers (IE, Avant, Firefox, and Mozilla). This interruption usually corresponds with an inability to access my email server through Outlook. I have Zone Alarm, AVG, Spyware Blaster, Ad Aware, Spybot, and others, all updated and run regularly. All turn up nothing.
Question: Could this connection problem be caused my the DNS issue?
Sorry for the long post. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
