Here is a link to McAfee\'s Security responce that should help.
You can look at Network Associates .
There was a rather complete solution provided by a guest on this forum found here.
Hope this helps. |

I've got some newer information if you still have the problem. Disable System Restore and run a virus scan again.
When finished remember to re-enable System Restore and creat a new restore point. |

Try running one of the Online Scans at the top of this Forum. |

Hey, I got W32/pate.b and my virus scanner detected and deleted 106 files. Now I don't have any connection to the internet. I have broadband, and my internet explorer nor netscape go online. Nothing connects. I'm totally disconnected. I am posting this from school, and I have already tried system restore.....but I had it off for months now!:{
I dunno what file got deleted and isn't letting me connect to the net. Any Ideas? |

Well, looks like reformatting is my last option, I better go burn all of my crap up on cd's and reformat, then replace them back on. Thank you very much. |

Well, I deleted a lot of stuff that I wanted and I put all the files I wanted in one folder....too bad, everything was so organized! Oh well, atleast I don't have to reformat! hehehehe, it was a good idea, but I got McAfee 7.0 Virus Scan (with everything like Firewall, and everything else) and QuickClean 3.0 hoping that this would help (even though I had McAfee 6.0), and then it started upgrading itself after I had installed. I was sitting there thinking how weird, but then when firewall was installed and everything else, I opened AIM up and it connected, then now im using Internet Explorer to tell whoever out there that has the same problem that I had a few minutes ago, then get McAfee VirusScan 7.0, anything under version 7.0 won't help! And Pheonix22, thanks for giving me an idea of what to do, or else if I didn't get the new version of McAfee I would have a internet disabled computer, and a lot of stress that would keep me from school work!! I had less stress and more confidence that my computer would once again connect to the internet!!! |

uhh, my mcafee firewall won't update the patch. It says, "Error committing changes to msi database. The file may be in use, or read-only." And the title of the message box is, "patch error". I tried closing the firewall, virus scanner, and everything, and then downloading the patch, but still doesn't work!!!! Any Ideas? |

Hey all, I found out I had this from a virus scan. What does this thing do to my pc? I'm NOT used to dealing with this info and got the "Never heard of it" from microsoft support. Few clicks later found ya'll and now feel very inept with dealing and removeing it. The mcAfee scan said I needed to enable cookies but I checked and they are. Major help here please! Also 1 more thing, microsoft had 40 Critical updates after their scan,23 for Win xp and 1 driver update. DO i Do it or No???????????? |

Hi Gretchen,
Helping with tech difficulties is what we are here for.
Not like ZDnet, which is like The National Enquirer these days
People have to learn somewhere w/o being ostarcised!
Also I have better luck with Norton Antivirus 2003
I've tried McAfee on my IBM NetVista w/ ~800 mghz Celeron
CPU & my system doesn't seem to like McAfee.
Do you run any type of Firewall software?
Yes...Apply the Critical Updates, but there are some non-critical
that you may not require anyhow.
What Windows version do you run? 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP,
Windows Server 2003?
Also what updates is MS asking you to apply?
Like I said, the Critical ones are important, but the others are not
as important.
Depends on what apps you use.
BTW...I've been "computing" for nearly 17 yrs. now & I never
took a course in IT.
I've learned everything I know by trial & error, but I still wouldn't
call myself an "Professional" user. Advanced yes, but really Pro...
NO |
