You have a large and varied selection there. Shocked
Please proceed as follows.

1.) Download , unzip and run the newest version of
CWShredder http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Reboot

2.) Download Spybot - Search & Destroy
Short tutorial and download link here:
http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/index1.html
Now press Settings, and Settings again.
Go to the Webupdate section, and check "Display also available beta versions".
Now press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds.
Reboot.

3.) Download Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Guidelines For Using Ad-aware 6 Build 6.181, SetUp and Removal suggestions:
http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/in...topic=8050
Reboot when done.

After all the above, please post a new HJT log and we will clean up any remnants.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = ,
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0498F5BD-02F8-4FB1-A27B-BEF6DEDF61E5} - C:\WINNT\system32\phpoc9505.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winmain] winmain.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Belt] C:\WINNT\Belt.exe

Reboot and delete:

make sure that in Folder Options > View hidden and operating system files are set to show:
How to Show Hidden/System Files
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Should be good to go.

Thanks for your help on this - how important is it to

Reboot and delete:
winmain.exe <-- file
C:\WINNT\Belt.exe <-- file
make sure that in Folder Options > View hidden and operating system files are set to show:
How to Show Hidden/System Files
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

I did the reboot, but was hesitant at deleting those files.

Read here if you have any doubt. I suggest you delete them Smile

Winmain
http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/w/winmain.asp

Also: winmain.exe One of the first of a new breed of malware. When run it immediately loads MSHTA.EXE from the Windows folder, placing it on "hot standby", ready to accept HTA scripting within a web page and then EXECUTE what is embedded IN the page as a program! In other words, it's possible for a "rogue" website to actually embed trojans, worms and/or viruses directly into a web page.
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_w.php

Belt.exe
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_b.php

Also: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/d...binet.html

Some additional reading, to keep from getting infected again Smile
So how did I get infected in the first place?
