Nokia adds Sophos antivirus engine

Nokia has added Sophos' virus detection engine to its messaging protection system for enterprise customers.

Sophos joins several other suppliers of virus, spam and content filtering technologies, including Kaspersky Labs, Postini, InDefense and Zix, whose systems have been integrated into the Nokia Message Protector security appliance.

Nokia Message Protector is aimed at enterprises wanting to move away from costly, high-administrative, standalone products to an integrated system for preventing spam, protecting against viruses and inspecting content. Message Protector can scan more than 150,000 messages per hour in a single appliance.

Antivirus technology from Sophos provides internet gateway security to help enterprises to detect all virus types. The engine will install and provide updates for the Nokia Message Protector automatically, with or without administrator assistance, using Nokia's automated network service. This process ensures that the latest e-mail security technology is deployed across e-mail networks with minimal latency.

Nokia Message Protector v1.3.1, with integrated Sophos antivirus engine, is expected to be available worldwide this month.
