Former Soulseek Web Site Installing A Dialer
Permlink | Top

I believe this is worth mentioning. Thanks to reader "Shuffle" for bringing this to my attention.

Soulseek is an ad-free, spyware free, p2p program, very popular by off-mainstream music lovers. a few months ago, soulseek lost their domain (slsk.org), and moved to www.slsknet.org. the old domain was bought, and now slsk.org looks like soulseek clone page, where everything you press on the page, opens a download dialog box, offering to download a file named soulseek.exe.

soulseek has issued a warning on the official soulseek board (http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php?showtopic=9477), claiming that this file is actually "Mainpean Stardialer" (http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/m/mainpean_stardialer.asp), a trojan dialer.

I believe this warning should be spred around.

shuffle

Thanks Shuffle.

Everyone, please be very careful about what you download and install. In this case, it probably can't be helped since the domain name used to be legitimate. This is just another example of why this sort of thing needs to be made illegal.
