I don't appreciate you trying to find out where I live just because I'm depressed.

Religion is ritualistic and not of the spirit.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen.

Religion is cult.
Faith is belief and/or trust based on desire.
Evidence need not be evident. |

That's good. Concise and to the point in good plain English.

Faith: The asured expectation of things foretold.
Religion: To follow one is a way of life.
I pity those who are searching for the true faith because it is a mamoth task to investigate all 'religions' in the search for the 'truth'. One thing is for sure the only way you can truely know what a religion believes is to experience it from the inside first hand, you cannot believe anything you read because all religions have many enemies, some deservedly so. |

Yes, well, there's the rub isn't it. It would seem that each religion insists that it is the only one true way, and the other guy over there in the dark corner is just fibbing. Obviously someone's got it wrong somewhere, eh?

Why must it be experienced from inside and first hand (presuming that's what you mean)? Have religions all become secret societies hiding the true principles of faith behind close doors, secret hand signals, and disguised rights of passage?

Including your precious bible too, right?

If you are not studying the 'religion' with members of the religion then how wiill you ever know if you are being told the truth about the beliefs of the religion? And yes the bible has many enemies, but if you spent as much time trying to prove the bible true as you have researching dirt on the bible you would definately have a different opinion, there are people with your level of education and higher who are satisfied that the bible contains truth. But you will always believe that they are kidding themselves, and because of your skepticisms you will never experience the contentment that true christians have. You will never know! Isnt that sad. |

chookpoo, I believe the bible does indeed contain truth and Truths, but I do not believe it is the specific word of an ethereal, indefinite entity.
I believe the bible contains historical truth, But I do not believe it is a reliable history book.
I believe the bible contains examples of real-life events exemplifying "healthy morality," but is more concerned with interesting fables, parables, and other works of narrative fiction designed to help the various ruling classes of various times enact social control.
I do not believe the bible is consistent, reliable, or an infallible guide for living a good, honest, and just life.
As to the contentment that true Christians have, I do not believe that such contentment requires texts like the bible to come into being. While the bible may indeed help people to attain contentment of that kind I feel it is as easily found following any form of text or cult-like program of indoctrination that provides perfect bromides for effectively turning one's eye away from the true evils of life. What I mean by that is that the contentment you speak of can as easily be found by giving in to the "leadership" of any cult of any kind. It is not exclusive to the bible, or Christianity. |
