Ashcroft\'s Terrorism Policies Dismay Some Conservatives

Quote:
In explaining the religious right's newfound unease about Mr. Ashcroft, Paul Weyrich, the president of the Free Congress Foundation, said, "A lot of the social conservatives appreciate the stands he's taken on child pornography and the Second Amendment and a number of social issues. But there is suddenly a great concern that what was passed in the wake of 9-11 were things that had little to do with catching terrorists but a lot to do with increasing the strength of government to infiltrate and spy on conservative organizations."

i think that you are somewhat right but the government annot get too powerful because they would be taken apart by their opponents and if they tryed to shut down too much of the oppisision then they would be labled as dictators

Review American history, President Lincoln did a lot of things that should have labelled him as a dictator. Look into what he did in New York and other northern states where oppositions arose to what he was doing. Many third world countries are critisized for taking political prisoners, and inhumane treatments, but it has happened in Americas past, present, and I am sure sometime in the future.
