|

My faith (if it can be called that, which I would dispute) is a faith based on rational thought - or so I like to think. My feelings about religion are well known, more or less, to regular posters here, especially my pals ekrubtap, TMOV, BooRad, and Mrs. Hoppes - but as Mrs. Hoppes has now called me a blasphemer (back to Baphomet with you evil sinner!) she may no longer count me as a pal. Nonetheless, I have found some words that describe well my beliefs regarding religion and the faith that compels and propels it. To wit:
Quote: |
Religion is based on blind faith; it is not evidence-based. It rests on basic beliefs — dogma — that are not derived nor supported by observation or by performance, but by need. It is wishful thinking used to simplify everything; it requires no real thinking. It survives on the need for an uncomplicated and easily explained world, and prides itself on its rejection of rationality. Its mascot/saint is Pollyanna. Religion eschews reason, investigation, and logic, as disturbing and unwanted elements of life. Religion is comforting, but also sophistic.... -- James Randi |
Religionists seem to be comfortable stating their faith in quotes, proverbs, and argument, so I thought I should pony up and do something similar.
Cheers.

Faith is a euphamism for "trust".
People can barely find it in themselves to trust themselves.
Yet they would trust a second hand god.

I'm sorry you no longer count me as a pal. And I am sorry you feel offended by what I said in the other thread. However, I am not going to retract my statement. What I said is true to God's Word. He is the final authority.
As far as blind faith goes... it's not blind.
For carnally minded, it is blind in that there is no "evidence" but for the spiritually minded, the evidence is everywhere.
BTW, I still consider you a pal and I am still praying for you.

Oh Mrs. Hoppes, I fear you misunderstood my rough English. I simply meant that you might have decided I was no longer your pal, after all it was you not I who called moi a blasphemer madam. .
Pray on madam, pray on. Who am I to stop you, much less inhibit your wish to save us all. By the by Mrs H, what exactly do you mean by:

Why "carnally minded"? I don't understand the distinction. Would you care to explain?

Carnally minded means thinking of things through the flesh rather than the spirit.
Kinda "what can I profit from this?" or "What can I get out of this?" instead of "How can God use me in this situation?" or "How can this other person be helped?"
Instead of "what have you done for me lately?" the question should be "what I have I done for Him lately?"

Q:What is the definition of one pal clapping in the forest if no deity exists to hear?

Q: What is the definition of one pal clapping in the forest if deity exists, hears, and gives you a really rough noogy?
