RD has noted that some development effort will be shifting to B9. So are any features slated or will this be a general cleanup?

In any event, I just received a 1475KB message (according to OE) but nothing is displayed. I've attached the message (with header sanitized for security reasons and abbreviated body so as to allow attachment).

Note that a
Quote:
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
boundary="b9_multipart_boundary_0=_"
is the first message part noted. Isn't this then something B9 did to the message?

Except that when I finally found the message in the B9 logs (an issue I trust will be addressed with any B9 upgrade), it noted NO changes of any kind! So what's up with that?

OK great. I did sneak in a question as to what changes we might expect with B9. I'll just reask in the correct forum.

Hi Ike
I got some feedback from the developers.

It appears that an attachment file was sent in RTF (Rich Text Format). I've tested various RTF formatted emails through Benign, and Benign doesn't damage them in anyway.

My Outlook Express, on the other hand, doesn't display RTF formatted emails at all, so any attachments sent in RTF emails don't appear, and the plain text portion of the multipart message are displayed, In Ike's case the plain text portion is blank.

Here's a URL that explains why RTF attachments are annoying.

http://agamemnon.ucs.ed.ac.uk/faq/mstnef.html

Ike can you check that your mail client can display RTF format emails, or encourage your contact to send plain text or HTML format emails. This doesn't appear to be an effect of Benign at all.

Welcome your feedback.

So the plain text portion didn't display because it wasn't there, is that what you're suggesting?

FYI, I use OE as well. I'm surprised that RTF attachments can't be read via OE. Somehow I would think that MS, who invented RTF, would ensure that this works. The link you provided suggests that non-MS clients might have a problem with RTF.

OK but then please explain this portion of my previous post:

Hi Ike

Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
boundary="b9_multipart_boundary_0=_"

These lines in the email mean that Benign has processed and changed some of the parts of the email, but those lines are still valid, and the email would be displayed properly in a mail client that understands RTF.
What I meant was that the attachment on that email would still have disappeared if Benign hadn't processed it.

Cheers
Hamish

OK then why doesn't the B9 log record that the message was changed? According to the log, B9 did nothing at all to that particular message!
