|
|
I'm trying out B9 and have run into a situation with NAV. Last night, I scanned my mail with MailWasher Pro and saw that I had an email with a virus attached, sitting on the server. I decided not to remove it with MWP but to see what happens if I downloaded it. Norton caught and deleted a Netsky virus upon download--B9 did not respond or attempt to remove this attachment as I thought it would. Why didn't it work? What does B9 do, if it does not remove harmful attachments as claimed?
Thanks,
GG |

When you have Norton AV incoming mail protection enabled configured then Norton will scan first, then Benign, and normally Norton's again.
If you have Norton's AV incoming mail protection disabled then
Benign will prevent the Netsky virus causing harm but remember to add ZIP file type to all your Benign Security profiles. We are releasing an updated Benign in a week or 2 that will have ZIP file type added by default. Refer below for instruction how to add ZIP file types to Benign.
W32 Netsky is an in an attachment (with a textfile icon): random name ending with ZIP, BAT, CMD, EXE, PIF or SCR extension
On Benign Low Security setting the attachment is renamed to message.zip.b9
Now if you double click it then it will say ' This can be dangerous to open, do you want to continue'. If you answer yes to open the virus will start.
On Benign Medium and High setting the attachments ZIP, BAT, CMD, EXE, PIF or SCR are blocked .If you are a Power User then Low is fine because you will know that opening it will cause your PC to be infected.
Compression application created files are not included in Benign’s default ‘Security Profiles’
I.e.
filename.zip
You can add these file extensions manually if you wish.
In Benign click Tools>>Options>>Security profiles(do for each profile)>>Add (the Add button beneath the File Extensions box) and enter
File extensions zip
Mime type application/x-compressed
Cheers

So does B-9 perform it's cleaning/removal functions once NAV is done doing it's thing, or is there a conflict when using both?
