Once you have updated your account records, your eBay session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to update will result in

Then they gave me a link........

Clicking on a link within an e-mail to give billing info ......................... not a good idea.
I would suggest you report the message to e-bay through the site, if it's genuine - they'll soon let you know!

I've already sent an email to eBay in regards to this email. They haven't sent one back yet.... The only problem it says that they will cancel my account if I don't feel the form out within 24hrs!
Inside the link, they want me to give them my email address and password! Why would they want that? Thats why I thought it was a bit weird, because eBay doesn't need that kind of info!
Thanks for the reply.... |

Look at the mail headers to see where the message originated from. If it is not through their mail servers, I would be willing to bet it is a scam. |

I've had a good look around eBay's security info and privacy policy but can't find anything relating to gathering information by e-mail. Paypal, for instance, state categorically that they do not gather info this way and you should not respond to e-mails purporting to be from Paypal if they ask for such information.
If your details need updating, surely you can do that onsite. In what way are the details out of date? And only 24 hours to update? Seems fishy to me.

I'd bet with almost no doubt these will be scams

It's exactly this type of text that uses a fear factor approach to convince the users into filling in the forms. EBay simply wouldn't do this, if it were truthful they might suspend your account until you clear it up, but never outright termination.

IT MAY BE A SCAM! HAVE YOU TRIED YOUR EBAY ACCOUNT?
I got a mail saying I changed my email info too and that I couldn't use my Ebay account until I comfirmed it by logging into my account. They provided a link.
I didn't click on the link, because I had just read in the Ebay help info warnings about fake mailings.
I went to Ebay and my account works fine. I emediatly emailed Ebay (with a copy of the email) and they emailed me back and informed me it was IN FACT A SCAM LETTER, and they had already investigated and busted the person doing it.
Further more they informed me, they NEVER send emails asking for personal information.
Best suggestion: NEVER CLICK ON A LINK WITHIN A EMAIL asking for personal info saying their from Ebay or PayPal.
Theres several FAKE PAYPALS floating around too. I've gotten some.
Some have suggested lately to check the address bar and make sure that the s is there. Ex: https:// NOT https//. The s is for secure site. The the spoofers have managed to fake that too. SO don't rely on that.
I NEVER log on to my Ebay or PayPal accounts from emails. I go straight to there sites.
Check your Ebay Account and make sure everything is correct and you can use Ebay. If you can, you know it's a spoof and just delete it.
If you can't get into your account or somthing has changed that you didn't change your self. Then someone has hijacked your account. You need to contact Ebay.
I use their live help alot, with great success! THe Live help icon is on the Home page near the right top corner.
I hope this helps. Good Luck! |

This IS a scam, and by now a fairly well known one. DO NOT REPLY TO ANY SUCH MESSAGE!!!
Both e-Bay and PayPal users have been plagued in recent months by variants of this message. The sender, disguised as a legitimate communication form e-Bay or PayPal, attempts to get you to give them your banking or other personal info.
All such e-mails should be forwarded to , or if you're in Canada.
More info on these can be found at:
http://pages.ebay.ca/help/welcome/account_protection.html
http://pages.ebay.com/education/spooftutorial/
PayPal has similar information on their website.
Best of luck. |
