*lol*.... The UCMJ needs some updating to reflect modern times, then.

Maybe some guys in cheap suits, perhaps? Wouldn't work.... I don't know too many military types who can't spot a Fed a mile away.... although it is obvious the ex-Executive of Enron has a problem doing so.

Ok... saw the photos. Nasty damage..... Not entirely as bad as I would have expected, but certainly bad enough !!!! And no FOD either... that's amazing.

I can remember bombers coming in for a landing with balls of fire from their wings.... fighters landing with no canopy, crews still inside fighting to save the war bird..... brave souls, every one. You know, I cannot drive past a flighline without feeling extremely proud..... and honored to have the opportunity.

KARAY,
THE NIGHT OF 30JUN67 AT 2330 THE NORTH VIETNAMESE STARTED THEIR VERY BIG SHOCK AND AWE ON US IN KHE SANH.
I HAD GOTTEN SOME GREEN PEAS IN FROM THE REAR AND WAS TELLING THEM ABOUT THE FACTS OF LIFE AND THEN WENT TO BED,, YOU KNOW THAT INTANGIBLE INADMISSIBLE IN COURT INSTINCTIVE GIFT I WROTE ABOUT?
WELL IT HAPPENED AND I DIDNT EVEN REALISE IT UNTIL THE DAMN GOOKS STARTED HITTING US WITH INCOMING.

I HAD TOLD THEM,THE GREEN PEAS, THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE THE HOLES WERE BEFORE THEY WENT TO SLEEP.
AND WHAT IT WOULD SOUND LIKE IF WE WERE GOING TO GET INCOMING ROCKETS,MORTARS AND ARTILLERY.

I EXPLAINED THAT IF THEY HEARD NOISES IN THE DISTANCE TOWARD LAOS, AND THEY WERE NOT PRECEEDED BY OUT GOING FIRE FROM OUR HOWITZERS THEN STAND BY , 'CAUSE THAT WAS GOING TO BE COMING IN ON US.

SO THEY ALL CHECKED OUT WHERE I TOLD THEM TO LOOK AND I DON'T THINK THAT AT THAT POINT THEY WERE REALLY SURE WHETHER
I WAS MESSIN' WITH THEM OR WHAT.
BUT THEY JUMPED RIGHT TO IT WHEN WE HEARD THE INCOMING GO OVERHEAD PRECEEDED BY THE SOUND OF THE GUNS IN LAOS AND GOT RIGHT INTO THE HOLE WITH ME.
WE WERE IN A FORTY MAN G.P. TENT AND I WAS THERE BECAUSE THE NEXT MORNING I WAS GETTING ON A PLANE TO GO TO PHU BAI AND GET PAID AND GO ON R&R .

DAMN IF THE GOOKS DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN AT 0530JUL01'67.
SAME INTENSITY.
AND BOTH TIMES OUR GUNNERS WERE UNDER FIRE AND IT WAS A RUNNING ARTILLERY FIGHT.
THE FIRST ONE AT 2330 , WHEN IT LET UP THERE WAS A LOT OF SCREAMING IN A HOLE ABOUT 30 YARDS FROM ME 'CAUSE TWO ROUNDS HAD LANDED IN THE HOLE WITH THE SECOND PLATOON.
I GOT OVER THERE AND A GUY LOOKED UP AT ME AND ,SAID,CLARKE,

HE PRONOUNCED MY NAME WITH A LONG"E".

THEY GOT MY BEAK, JESUS I HAVE A HARD TIME EVEN TELLING YOU THIS.
EVERY ONE CALLED HIM "BEAK''CAUSE HE HAD A LARGE NOSE.
HE SAID ,CLARKEEE, THEY GOT MY BEAK, AND I WAS LOOKING RIGHT INTO HIS FACE AND COULDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW HIS EYES WERE STILL IN HIS EYESOCKETS.
SO I TOLD HIM , BEAK ,COME OUT OF THAT HOLE, AND I TOOK HIM ON THE SHOULDER TO THE BATTALION AID STATION AND I WAS THE FIRST ON IN THERE..
AND THE SURGEON LOOKED AT ME AND I ASKED HIM, WHERE DO YOU WANT THIS MAN, HE POINTED TO THE SPOT AND SAID PUT HIM RIGHT THERE.
I PUT HIM ON THE GURNEY AND THE DOC LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GONNA GO INTO SHOCK.
I SAID GOOD BYE TO BEAK AND NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN , I'M SURE THEY TOOK HIM TO THE SHIP AND THEN FROM THERE TO JAPAN.
I WENT ON R&R AND WHEN I GOT BACK ABOUT EIGHT DAYS LATER, 'CAUSE OUR PLANE HAD SOME ENGINE WORK THAT HAD TO BE DONE AND WE GOT AN EXTRA DAY ON THE BEACH AT WAIKIKI, I WENT TO THE 3RD MARINE DIV AIR WING TO GET ON A MANIFEST TO GO TO KHE SANH AND THE SGT BEHIND THE COUNTER HAD ME SIGN THE MANIFEST AND THEN TOLD ME TO COME BACK THE NEXT MORNING.
THIS SIGN IN AND COME BACK THING WENT ON FOR THIRTY DAYS.
AND NO ONE WOULD TELL US WHY WE WEREN'T ABLE TO GET BACK TO KHE SANH.
IT WAS YEARS LATER THAT IT DAWNED ON ME THAT THEY WERE TOLD NOT TO SAY A THING ABOUT WHAT THE NVA WERE DOING.
THEY WERE SHOOTING DOWN ANY A/C THAT WAS APPROACHING AND HAD GOT A FEW.

ONE NIGHT IN JULY, WHILE I WAS WAITING IN THE REAR AT THE TRANSIENT FACILITY IN DA NANG THERE WAS A HELL OF ALOT OF ACTIVITY ON THE AIRFIELD,
THERE WAS A B-52 THAT HAD GOTTEN BADLY DAMAGED IN A BOMBING RUN OVER NORTH VIRTNAM AND IT COULD NOT MAKE IT BACK TO GUAM OR WHEREVER IT HAD COME FROM, MAYBE THAILAND , I DON'T KNOW.
THEY MADE SEVERAL LOW APPROACHES TO THE RUNWAY AT DA NANG AND THEY JUST HAD TO GO AROUND.
SEVERAL HUGE NYLON BARRIERS WERE PUT UP IN A BIG HURRY.
I THINK IT WAS THREE OR MORE.
AND FINALLY THIS PILOT PUT THAT BUF ON THE DECK, IT TORE DOWN THAT RUNWAY RIGHT THROUGH THE BARRIERS AND ENDED UP IN THE DIRT AT THE FAR END OF THE FIELD.
THE ONLY GUY THEY GOT OUT WAS THE GUY IN THE TAIL,ALL THE OTHERS PERISHED IN THE ATTEMPT TO LAND ,,, THE FIRE AFTERWARDS,,, YOU UNDERSTAND? .
THE DAMN AIRPLANE WAS A PILE OF ALUMINUM AND MAGNESIUM ASH THE NEXT MORNING .
IT MADE ME SICK TO SEE THAT.
I'M SURPRISED THAT THE DHL CARGO PLANE MADE IT BACK TO THE FIELD IN BAGHDAD.

Many are praying for God’s protection over our brave men and women fighting overseas. That amazing photo graphically illustrates an angel watching over our troops.

The swirling patterns are caused by the plane's dropping decoy flares to fool and evade heat-seeking anti-aircraft missile, and they illustrate a phenomenon of wake turbulance known as vortex shedding. The drag from tips of aircraft wings tend to produce vortices or swirls.

But I prefer to view it as a portrait of God’s protection!
