Hi all
I got following issue with Zone Alarm (the freeware version, not pro)..
Yesterday I started my cuomputer as usual, and I got a ZA message saying "new connection found.. blabla.." I wasn't sure what it is, so I marked it as Internet Zone since The Zone Alarm Tutorial was saying this is the safe thing to do if you don't know what it is... But guess what: looks like this was the internet connection (Cable modem).. now I can't access Internet anymore, no messenger.. anything.. I always get a "site not found" in my browser. I first moved that connection to "trusted zone", but taht did not help. I also marked the four fields to "allowed", but no change again. In the end, I just deinstalled ZA and reinstalled it.. same crap. I also tryed to access internet with ZA completely shut downm but no success again. I always get that message saying something like "outgoing connection blocked " or something like that from ZA (settings changed to "show all messages" or something similiar). I was really hoping that works again once ZA in deinstalled, but no success.. Can someone help me out here? I'm not sure if ZA changed my proxy or internet security settings..
many thanks for your help, much appreciated

It sounds to me like you just got a new ISP via cable. You will need to reset your database. You will lose all your customizations in ZoneAlarm.
1. Go into the Overview Preferences tab and turn off "Load ZoneAlarm at startup".
2. Reboot into safe mode. {Instructions if needed}
3. Go into the folder named internet logs {do a search if you don't know where it is in your OS}.
4. Delete everything in that folder.
5. Empty the recycle bin.
6. Reboot into normal windows.
7. Restart ZA manually.
8. Recheck the "Load ZoneAlarm at startup".
Once that is done, make sure you grant your browser and probably Windows Explorer 'access' in your programs list. And put your DNS server in the trused zone of your firewall zones panel. See if that works. |
