Anybody have any problems with Zonealarm and DCOM? Whenever I attempt to install Zonealarm, my PC crashes. In the systems event viewer after reboot I get this error message:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service ImapiService with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:

{520CCA63-51A5-11D3-9144-00104BA11C5E}"

Some people say to go ahead and either delete or disable DCOM. Anyways, I thought I might get some feedback on this.

I don't think that is the problem. Try turning off the boot on error option in XP so that you can get the error message from the BSOD.

Go to the control panel and open up system. then go to the advanced tab, then down to the startup and recovery and click settings, then under system failure, uncheck the automatic reboot.

Once it reboots, see if you can find the error on Gogle, or post it back here.

But if I "uncheck" the automatic reboot...then how will it reboot after crash? Or do I just pull the plug out, and plug it back in again, to reboot it that way? Anyways, after every serious crash and subsequent reboot, MS prompts me to email them the error data report, which basically is and error signature report consisting mostly of code in 0's and 1's.

Well, you were right. Even though I "disabled" DCOM, the PC still crashed during a zone alarm installation. Here is the error event viewer log, after crash reboot regarding the attempted install:

The Event log service was started.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000ce (0xec8c7cce, 0x00000000, 0xec8c7cce, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini042904-01.dmp.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service ImapiService with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
