i've tried to download norton and i keep geting an older variant is already installed..remove and run installer again..i cannot find other program in my removeable files..can you help to figure this out too...

You never said which Norton product you were trying to download. Cool Is it NIS/NPF, NAV, NSW, NU, or something else? (And what version, I presume 2004?)

At any rate, I assume you went to Add/Remote Software and removed any products listed as "Norton ...", "Symantec ..." , etc., but did you also look for "LiveUpdate" and "LiveRegister"? These are other possibilities.

If you've still got this problem (sorry for taking so long to even notice the presence of this Forum), you may need to resort to the use of the specialized Symantec utilities, rnis and rnav (and there's one for NSW, also), which you should be able to find and download from the Symantect website's support area. At least one of these (rnav, I think) is likely to show as rnav2003.exe -- if you find that one, it will remove NAV 2003 or any prior version. Read the directions with these utilties very carefully and do things in the order indicated.

Removing older versions of Norton products can be quite a hassle.
