Hi CC peop's...

Ok this is the scenario:

* In NAV I click "SCAN" computer for virus & threats. 27 minutes later:
* The "Repair Wizard: Delete" window opens.
* The window says there are 6 at-risk files. and...
* "We recommend that you let us delete all of the selected items automatically." (the six items, all adware are CHECKED.)
* under this recommendation are 2 buttons:
Delete, and Skip.
* I click DELETE.
* "Repair Wizard: Exclude at-risk files" window opens, with the message: "we recommend you click on the threat name to determine the correct action for each remaining item. You may select items to exclude them from future scans." (There are the six items, all unchecked. the status of each says "Delete failed")
* There are two buttons below this message: Exclude, and Skip.
* I click Skip.
* The scan summary comes up with the message: "You have not eliminated all threats. There are still 6 at-risk files remaining."

Ahhhhh...I have tried several ways, and always end up with this "scan summary" message...

I don't understand how this works. Why does the delete fail? I have searched the Symantec Help center under "Deleting", and find no help.
They recommend that I let them automatically delete these items, and I wish they would.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Chickengirl

I don't know if this will help much, but i have heard that NAV & NIS are very poor at finding & deleting adware. Have you tried Ad-aware & Spybot search & destroy as a double check? You might have better luck with these programs, just my 1.2 cents worth. Smile

Sad I too am having the same problem but there are 26 on my computer and cannot seem to get rid of them. It is so frustrating the little buggers are there after every scan. I have been in touch via e mail with N A V but they do not seem to be able to help me. If anyone out there knows how to get rid of these pests can you let me know !!!! Also does anyone know which programmes they are in with.

I have had the same problem with NAV finding adware files yet it fails to delete them when I click "Delete". I also have tried using the Adaware program to locate and delete the files but it did not deliver either. So, I just performed a search on my pc of the file(s) listed on NAV and then simply deleted them. One thing to make sure of is to empty your recycle bin after you delete them. Then, perform another NAV system scan to confirm that they have been deleted. No, this does not solve the real problem of NAV not being able to delete the files - I will research that problem and try to figure something out. But in the meantime you can at least use this workaround so you won't keep having the same annoying files show up in your NAV system scans. Smile

NAV is not written to delete those adware and spyware files. It's not a big deal to delete them manually, furthermore most of those files are not really a threat, so if you find something just locate the file and delete it manually.

Download adaware and spybot
