think my computer is being used as an email gateway. my isp have closed port 25, so these emails are not being sent

but what is happening is when i have the XP firewall disabled, norton is scanning mass amounts of outgoing emails. even when i have outlook closed. all the emails end up failing because my isp have closed port 25. I have run the anti virus several times in safe mode and no virus is found.

If i end process on explorer.exe the emails stop sending. and if i have the firewall enabled the emails stop sending. So i can only think that this thing has latched itsef to explorer.exe. which is a pain. I have all virus definitions up to date, and it finds nothing. maybe a new virus? im not sure. but if you know how to prevent this or what i should do could YOU PLEASE help!

thanx

I would like to see this question answered because I am having the exact same problem. I've also done the scans in safe mode with no luck. Norton pops up a new window scanning outgoing messages about every 20 seconds. The only email I use is onlineHere are some examples of error messages that pop up after "Norton AntiVirus is scanning your email message"

Norton AntiVirus was unable to send your email message because the connection to your mail server was interrupted. Please open your email client and re-send the message from the Sent Messages folder.

Norton Antivirus was unable to send your email message because your mail server rejected the message: 571 Message Refused.

I have also ran into this problem numerous times.

Solution, even though it will tell you the virus was not found on your computer, run the FxMyDoom.exe removal tool from symantec.

Although this seemed to fix the problem, I also ran FxBlaster.exe.

I have never had the problem since.

Hope this helps.
