ok.
that's not how you use eraser.
now that you have it installed it will erase files as you select them to be erased.
now try this go to your computer and right click [[1543WED12MAY2004] [ EDIT ] RIGHT CLICK ON YOUR HARD DRIVE,,, and you will see an option to erase.
follow the prompts.
the first time you use it just try the option number four.
it's the fastest .
on my seagate scsi it takes about 25 minutes to overwrite all the empty space and be done with it.
as anothere example ,
i found a file remnant in program files from something that i had deleted with great difficuly previously and when i clicked on it, it gave me the erase option, when i said ok erase, WHAM, THE THING DISAPPEARED FOR EVER.

this little program makes me wonder whether it will be useful to erase instead of using other methods to remove files like the MSBLASTER OR WORM/LOVSAN THAT I HAD ON MY PC LAST YEAR.
BACK THEN I HAD TO USE THE REMOVAL TOOL TO GET THE THING OFF OF MY HARDDRIVE BEFORE I COULD DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE PATCH FROM M/S.

garyman, if you are unfamiliar with eraser type programs please be very, very, very careful using Eraser. Basically what it does is perform a "permanent" erase of any file you choose to erase. When you delete a file it is not really "deleted" per say. It is overwritten with 0's and 1's. What Eraser does is overwrite the file anywhere from 1 to 32 times. This makes it virtually impossible to recover the file. Most people use programs like Eraser to remove sensitive documents from their computers. I use it to overwrite the "free space" on my hard drive. Just makes me feel good. Here is some technical reading on Eraser: http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/faq.php

In addition to erasing files and such you can also create a NUKE disk. What is a NUKE disk you ask? It is a floppy that when inserted and accessed will erase your hard drive. Again, this function is used by people with sensitive information on their computers.

Again, be very, very careful with this program.

I had a CWS dll on one of my systems which I could only clear from the recovery console. Would it have cleared that? I mean, I don't care of it overwrites it several times, can it reach file with the attributes set to hidden, system running at the same level as the system?

I do not think it will find hidden files.
