Can anyone tell me if the risk is worth taking to download 'SideStep the traveler's search engine'?

Terms of service and other details are here:

http://www.sidestep.com/main.html

My spouse is an inveterate travel site searcher and has courteously asked if it would be OK.

I note that Trust.E and Verisign say it's OK, but I think to use the prog is assigning a lot of power to yet unknown forces. So I hesitate and ask for advice. Call me perplexed.

Any thoughts?

Don't download the sidestep search engine. For some reason the site is in my restricted sites list (put there by Spyware Blaster and/or IE-SPYAD).
The company probably got the awards and verifications by bribing people. (ok mabe not the verifications but I'm sure they bribed the editors at magazines to get the award.)
I don't see how you can download a search engine. Are you sure it isn't a toolbar?

Thanks for that. If, as you say, the company probably got the awards and verifications by bribing people, it rather damns Trust.E and Verisign as references. I will heed your advice unless anyone else has more information.

I don't think the TrustE or Verisign means anything. Iv'e been on sites that give out the free smilies (it includes a hijacker) and they have the verisign and TrustE icon. When I click the verisign the site is verified to be ligit. When I click the TrustE link nothing happens. You just can't rely on TrustE and Verisign to tell if something is bad or not.
If it sounds too good to be true then avoid it.

I'm glad I could help you.
